Sebenza question

I had a thread up earlier about what knife to buy for $400 or so, and the Sebenza was mentioned many times. That knife must have a lot of respect around here, as $400 would buy a nice handmade folder.

Anyway, I'm almost exclusively a tip-down kinda guy so I gotta ask: is it possible to get a Sebenza set up for tip-down carry? Has anyone modified their Sebbie for tip-down?

Please keep in mind that, here in the boonies, I've never actually seen or handled a Sebenza, so if it is painfully obvious to everyone else that the knife can't be made tip-down, this is the reason I don't know that.

I'm sure it's possible, in fact, I've seen a tip down Sebenza as a part of somebody's userpic here on this forum. However, drilling holes and making the Sebenza a tip down knife would void the warranty...

Don't know about from CRK, call them up and check.

Aa far as seeing one, if i am not mistaken, Tom Mayo is in your neck of the woods.

He does the best Sebbie mods around. I'd try to contact him.

Converting a Sebenza to tip-down carry is not something CRK is interested in, either as a design change or after-market. But it's easy enough to do, and I'm sure quite a few have been modified.

"Voiding the warranty" sounds dangerous :) but a Sebenza is so durable that this may not mean anything. After all, some people void it by having Tom Mayo punch holes in the handles :D

Another possiblity for someone who wants a Sebenza but isn't happy with the blade orientation is to use a sheath. CRK sells both leather (pretty massive) and nylon. Several forumites make really nice custom sheaths. (Gary Graley, lifter4Him, and K.V.Collucci, for a few.)
