Can a closed Sebenza (large) be used in the in the fist as an impact tool for breaking auto glass without causing major damage to the knife? Could a hard impact on tempered glass cause the Ti slabs to peen? I'm just curious, because of all the current knives that are available with a glass breaker built into the handle, if the large Seb could be used in this way.

My first thought is if one slab hit before the other it could put a lot of stress on the spacers and their screws and maybe cause them to be torqued out of perfect parallel. What do you think? Has anyone tested a Sebenza in this way?

I've not done it, nor would I want to try it with a $400 plus knife. I carry a spring loaded center punch for that purpose.

I'm sure it can do it just fine, tempered auto glass isn't that hard to shatter. Not as well as a proper carbide glass breaker since Ti is fairly soft, resilient and shock-absorbing; and for that reason the scales probably wouldn't peen, either, least not very much. Would probably get scuffed up some, however.

But generally speaking, what Richard said. :)

Good forward planning! Most of us don't plan ahead for that contingency. If someone's life was in danger, I'd use whatever tool came to hand, even a full-dress Sebenza (which I'll never own!). Small price to pay.

CrisN,

As an LEO I've had to break many a window and am never on duty without my punch. A ballpoint pen sized carbide scribe works well too.
