Is Mammoth Bark Ivory rare or hard to come by? I just ordered a Sebenza 21 with mammoth bark ivory and demascus blade and it took me forever to find one. Why is this? I'm glad I picked it up but it leaves me wondering is CRK just not producing these anymore or has the supply just dwindled down?

It's just a very expensive handle material. Also, the damascus takes a year or so to be available once ordered. Both make for a beautiful combo but not in very high demand. YOu will not find many vendors wanting to order knives like that to sit on.

Bark Mammoth Ivory it is after all....mammoth ivory.....demand is there, but it is expensive. BBQ Boy explained pretty well why they are not flooding the scene. It is a specific demand, so those who buy it rarely re-sell it because they know they wanted it.

Also, is the ss demascus just as rust resistant as the S30V ss? I am asking because I am going to use it as an EDC and wanted to know if there are any precautionary measures as far as maintenance goes to keep it in tip top shape that would differ from the S30V blade.

If he does not come around to this thread send neyfmaker a pm, he used the SS in his mnandi. He can comment on it. One thing I do remember is that it he mentioned it holds an edge better then the standard s30v he owns, so it is a great EDC steel.

Actually mammoth ivory is not all that rare. Lot's of it comes from Russia. With the tundra melting more and more is available. If you look on the knife maker supply websites MI is not as expensive as I would have thought. I think the trick and the expense is that it may be difficult to work.

As they say: they ain't makin' any more of it.

I think the trick with MI bark is that getting two pieces that can make a usable, attractive, and robust scale kinda narrows the field a bit. I think there's plenty of it, but good enough? Who knows.

Once I ordered a MI & SS damascus Sebenza, a beaut combo, the Damascus was a 18 mo wait, and the Inlay at least 12 mos. This was about 5-6 yrs ago. Was worth the wait. My current EDC is a Small Sebbe 21 with blasted (std) handles, and a SS Raindrop blade. She seems just as sharp after time as a BG42 blade does on another. The only thing I've noticed is that after cutting citrus, that I want to rinse asap. Once I did not rinse off until next day, and the blued part seemed a little rusty. Cleaned right up, so I rarely use it on an orange any more. But otherwise is awesome as an EDC steel. This is my 2nd SS Damascus EDC Sebbie. The blade's unique pattern is also puts it in its own special class.

I ordered this sight unseen but thought that the wood finish you can't go wrong with. I will try to snap photos of both the Mammoth Bark and Spalted Maple 2010 LE for you guys this weekend. They will both see a lot of pocket time along with my Partially serrated sebenza. My only regret is not getting into knife collecting earlier:D
