1) Do the custom graphics on the handle tend to wear off ?
2) The Sebenza 25 and Umnumzaan require that you disassemble the knife and apply Locktite but the Sebenza 21 does not need this. Is this correct ?
3) What does the word "Sebenza" mean ?

These questions have me curious.

1) The graphics are engraved in the titanium slab. However, the color can wear and/or fade with handling/use. CRK can recolor the graphics with a trip back to the mother ship.

2) Correct, but mostly on the pivot. You will find that some don't use loctite on their 25's or Zaan's and have no issue.

3) Sebenza is Zulu for "work". So use it! :D. Several CRK's are named after Zulu words.

Excellent. Thanks. Interesting that some have no problem on the 25's without Loctite. I wonder if it's really needed.

The 25 and Umnumzaan have adjustable pivots, for me the sweet spot doesn't require the use of Loctite. If you feel you want to keep the pivot loose without the screw backing out, then you'll probably need to use it. I've taken the pivot screw out and left the pivot barrel and the knife still opened/closed without issue. You can always use a wrap of Teflon tape in place of Loctite.

Good to know. I like a tight pivot. Would I then probably not need Loctite ?

I don't think you will need to use it. I've got several 25's and Umnumzaan's, I've yet to break the seal on the Loctite supplied by CRK.

Yes, every new Umnumzaan and 25 comes with a small CRK tube of purple loctite. They look like the tubes of CRK flourinated grease that come with every CRK.

I would guess the Inkosi also comes with loctite. Not sure as I don't have one to verify that.

Just use the damn loctite. Chris Reeve designed the knife using precision cut threads that are made to use a dab of loctite. He has stated as such on here a few times.

I'm paraphrasing here, but it was along the lines of "why anyone would buy such an expensive knife and not follow the manufacturers recommendations is beyond me."

may I add, they are phenomenal knives. I just got my first last week, a 25.

I used LocTite on all the screws on my 21 after losing one. Haven't taken it apart since, no problems. A drop of BreakFree keeps it lubed. No special treatment; rinse with hot water after using for food prep, shake it dry. Sebbies are users. This knife will likely outlast me.

Why not follow the directions? Your lost screw is due to it not being tightened, not due to an absence of Locktite. Why use BreakFree rather than the grease it was designed for?

Then why wasn't the damn Loctite applied at the factory ? Is it so the knife owner can adjust the pivot tension to his liking first and then may add the damn Loctite ? Also , why doesn't the 21 require damn Loctite ? ;)

That's funny!!!!!!
The 21 has a bushing system. The blade and two washers are the same width as the bushing. Therefore, the bushing is against the titanium, making it so you can crank down on the pivot and not over tighten it where the blade won't open.
Not so with the 25 and Umnumzaan, they can be over tightened.
Personally, I don't crank down that hard on the 21, just a little past snug where it binds a bit.

Ah , this clears things up for me. Thank you. I've always been curious of the differences between the 21 and 25 in regards to the pivot.

I've never needed to take any of mine apart let alone add loctite. Lol. I use my 25 a lot too. Gotta love these knives.
