Greetings,

A couple of quick questions:

1) Is there a huge difference between BG-42 and S30V steel? BG's are starting to turn up discounted and I'm wondering if the new steel justifies the price.

2)How many have dual Thumbstuds? Are they a must? Or does one Thumbstud work fine?

3)What is involved in refinishing a Small Sebenza? Price? Time? I can't find anything on www.chrisreeve.com.

4)What do you all prefer: Classic or Plain Blade Shape? Why?

Thanks, the answers will lead into my first Sebenza purchase.

Welcome aboard Brian! The journey through Sebenzaland is a wild ride!:D One that can at times be costly, but extremely satisfying!:) I have both the BG42 and S30V Sebbies and can't really tell a lot of difference, mainly due to the type of cutting tasks I have used them for. Others may be better qualified to answer that question. I have a large Classic with leather inlays that I sent back to have the double thumblugs put on. It doesn't aid the functioning of it, it's just symmetricaly pleasing. I plan to return a large woody to have double thumblugs attatched. As far as the two models I find myself leaning towards the Classics. I like the pointier blade profile and the handle profile of the Classic. Of course there are just as many that like the regular profile. Your best bet is to try and find a place where you can handle each to see the difference. Barring this just go ahead and buy one, you won't be dissapointed!:D

The single thumbstud is my only gripe with the Sebenza. I can't say that I open my knives much with my left hand, but a single thumbstud just offends my sense of symmetry. So ... I ordered (and just received) a large and a small regular, both with dual thumbstuds.

Perfect!

Brian - I placed my orders through 1SKS. I ordered the large on April 23, the small on May 6. They arrived together last week.

It takes about month to ship one in and have it retrofitted for the dual studs. I have just packaged up my 2001 large ironwood to have dual studs and a swedge added. Symmetry is where its at!:D
