I recently picked up a used Large Plain Left-Handed Sebenza (my first)and have a couple of questions. The inside of the lockside scale is engraved with B99. Does this mean any thing? Also, the knife is well used and has little anodization left on the thumb lug. Are only the thumb lugs anodized or are the backspacer disks anodized as well? Finally, the knife came with a 12/2002 DOB certificate and box, but has the old style clip without the "w". Is this possible? It does have the cutout under the clip. On the DOB certificate it does not state that knife is left-handed. I wonder if I recieved the incorrect box and paperwork. Regardless, I am very pleased with the knife and got it for a good price. I plan to carry it for an EDC, so the box and paperwork matter little, but I am curious. I have been looking for a used Large Plain Left-Handed Sebenza for awhile, but they are hard to come by. My BM's are now getting a rest. Thanks for any input.

dpsmith - B99 means it was made form the second batch of handles made in 1999 (I think, that was what someone told me when I aksed about mine)

Normally thumb lugs and back spacers are anodised the same colour but I guess someone could have asked for the back spacer to be left plain.

both my lefthanders state the fact on the birth papers.

I dont have a large plain so feel free to send it to me when you get bored with it :D

From the little I know about sebenzas your knife was made in 1999 and should have a blade made of BG42 steel. Your DOB certificate has has to be from a different knife plus they were already made with S30V blades that time. I could be wrong!

the B99 bit is when the handles were produced not when the knife was assembled.

I bought a large left handed classic (DOB cant remember but within a month or so before I received it) last year but the handles are marked A01.

Perhapos because they do not make that many left handed knives the runs of handles last for ages before they all get used on assembled knives?ˇ

You can order a new style clip from CRK for about $10. It will fit yours perfectly. Do yourself a favor and E-mail Tom Mayo at mayoknives.com and ask him to Mayonize your large Sebbie. He did it to mine and I am very happy with the results.

Very strange indeed! Old style clip/recess with THAT dob??? My EDC seb (sm.) was born 9/11/2000, and has the older slab w/ extra recess in the lockbar, but came with the new style clip. I asked Bridget and she said that they were just using up what they had at that time. The only thing I can Imagine is that they made a big batch (B99) of left handers' slabs and it took a while to get them all made??? I guess the real question here is... Does anyone else have a large left hander with an older dob which has the newer fearures???

My new small plain lefty just arrived today. Born on date may 6 2003. The scales are marked c 02.
I know I am preaching to the converted, but WOW, this is a nice knife. I have a one piece, but this is my firsh seb. I ordered it with out ever handeling one, and I am NOT dissapointed. What I like is the knife is all function. Not "flashy". Understated in its coolness. In a word, perfect. And its nice to finally have a left handed folder. The ridges on the stud are suprizingly sharp. Not painful to use, but they really bite into the epidermis to make it easy to open. It's a good thing I got a lefty, cause it seems hard to open this design with the off hand.

I have a Small Classic w/double thumblugs and swedge that says D00 D00 on the inside of the handle slabs.

Given my nickname here on the forums, I find it rather comedic.

I assume that means December 2000 or somesuch?

Or did Danbo know I would buy it?:D

Thanks for the input. I think I must have recieved the wrong box and DOB certificate. The knife was used and not advertised as including the box and DOB certificate, so getting it was a bonus. Like I said before I bought this knife to use and plan to keep it. Therefore, it is not a big deal getting the wrong DOB certificate.

After more than a week of owning my first Sebenza I have to say I am impressed. All the hype over these knives is truly merited. In a right-handed world it is nice to have a truly left handed knife.
