Hello guys,

one of my knife-mates has this beautiful Regular with customized handle. It is Large model with BG-42 steel. He bought it a few years ago as secondhand, sadly he doesn´t have certificate or any other info available, nor contact to the previous owner.

Do you know WHO could be author of this customization? My mate sent this pic already to CRK, they didn´t know but they liked it :).

Any feedback highly appreciated!

That's a very interesting design on an old Sebenza. I don't recognize the artist, but I can tell you that this is a very early example of the "Regular" style from around 1997. The thin script on the CR logo and the bullet-shaped blade are clues to its age. Unless I'm mistaken the blade also has a satin finish on the flats, and that only showed up on a few early Regular blades.

Somehow the design does seem somewhat familiar, but I may have just seen something similar in the past. If I do remember any details about it, I'll let you know. Nice piece, paperwork or not.

It is indeed one of the earliest versions of the regular sebenza. Aprox. back when the "H" sebenza was made, though there is no designation. My guess it would be right when the "H"'s were done being marked. The blade finish is also the look of the "H" as well. I have some older ones, but nothing like this. Very Rare indeed. As for the design, it does look machined to me in the reverse silver contrast look that CRK has done over the years.

I've got a custom graphic from CRK. From what I understand, CRK didn't record some of the early work they did. My guess would be that it is a custom from CRK done a long time ago, as many knives as they have produced over the years, it would be amazing if one particular knife would be remembered. Does the slabs have a time stamp on it??

I am the one that milled that :)

Found a pic when I had it up for sale several years ago..

It very nearly became this;

Wow, that´s amazing!! I knew that BF was the right place to ask but I never imagined to get to the core :).

Do you remember anything about this particular Sebenza? I believe that many details mentioned already are correct (thanks for your input, guys!)...

That is amazing that the man who modified that knife was able to see this thread two hours after it started.

When I first started reading the thread I thought "fat chance" you would find anything out and BAM Bill pops up. Very nice work and beautiful knife. Now I want to know more about it.

I seem to recall seeing that a few years back. Glad you found your answer!

Now that I have some time,..I can give a few details about this.

It is a BG-42 and I believe 1997 rings a bell..This is one of the two Sebenzas I have lost. This one was found in a couch after I replaced it. IIRC, this was the first Sebenza that I bought and the first knife I bought on Bladeforums from Gary Graley. Sadly, the one Sebenza has never been found. Anyway, I gave this to one of my brothers and he relegated it to his toolbox duty...I believe that he threw away the box and the bc. Long story short, I purchased it back from him a few years later and decided I wanted to customize it. When I started to take classes for a degree in mechanical engineering, I sold about 95% of my knives..This one included. It was to help fund the books I needed as well as a few other items.

I honestly wish I never sold this one...It had alot of sentimental meaning to me..Have always wondered if it would ever turn up :D

Thank you very much for the details! Really interesting story... The truth is, that I had to sell my first Sebenza - it was Large Classic - to fund my university fees, so I know how you feel. Btw my friend that owns "your" Regular now owns "my" Classic too :).

If you want this knife back, please send me PM. It might be for sale, my friend wants to reduce his collection. I can´t promise it will get its way back to you, but there´s a chance for sure.

Your PM's seem to be disabled. Shoot me an email..I am interested in either trading or buying this back :)
