Sebenza saved by lanyard

I was working in my garage the other day using my new small regular Sebenza to cut up some cardboard boxes, when I suddenly felt it slip out of my hand with the open blade pointed down towards the cement floor. Somehow, I just barely managed to catch it by the very end of factory-tied hangman's noose lanyard knot. Seriously - for a moment my Seb was just hanging there from my hand by the lanyard.

I had been thinking about removing that lanyard, but now I think maybe I'll just keep it!

Lucky save Scott,

I wasn't so fortunate a couple days ago. First time this has happened to me. My small bark ivory inlayed Seb fell out of my pocket while I was bending over to pick up a piece of mail I dropped. Luckly it landed on the top corner of the titanium frame and only a small scratch/nic occured. Still mad a heck, but I guess my own fault. I might just carry it in the slip sheath or maybe a belt sheath from now on. I say that now as I sit here with it again...clipped in my right front pocket.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about that drop, but it sounds like it could have been much worse. I'm sure CRK can return it to like-new condition if you ever send it in for service.

The thought of dropping a high-end Sebenza is what keeps me from owning a high-end Sebenza...that plus a lack of money. I removed the clip and just carry my small Seb loose in my front pocket. I sewed my jeans pocket together in one spot to keep the Seb standing upright in my pocket rather than laying sideways across the bottom. So far, I'm really happy with this set up.

Sorry to hear about that-stuff like that drives me mad too.

Ok, I`m being curious here-you had it clipped to your front pocket, and it came loose...?

Well done on saving your Sebenza! You were quite lucky there! :)

Oh, and the pocket mod sounds pretty clever-that never even crossed my mind! Simple, but probably very effective.

My guess is that I didn't actually bend over, more like squatted than stood up and the conclusion was it being pushed by my hip and out of the pocket. Yeah, stuff happeneds, but dang! This is first and only time this happened. I don't blame Chris Reeve, just one of those things. Lessen learned.

You were lucky you saved it from a fall, and even luckier you didn't end up in the hospital. I've learned to never try to catch a falling knife, too much chance of getting cut. In fact, when I drop a knife I move away from it as quickly as possible to avoid it landing on me. Last time I dropped a blade was while in the kitchen. An IVO paring knife slipped out of my hand and I instantly jumped out of the way and watched in horror as it clanked against the ceramic floor. The impact flatted a portion of the edge, which I fixed up in about 10 minutes. Much less painful than a handful of stitches.

Scott,
At first, I did not like the lanyard either. Now, when I need er, I just yank on that baby and the Seb is in my hand. Happy holidays!
