I tried to find the timeline info but was unsuccessful so I thought you guys would know.

I know that CRK used BG-42 prior to S30V and ATS-34 prior to the BG-42.

Would someone be kind enough to tell me what years ATS-34 and BG-42 where used in the Sebenza?

I guess the better question is If you buy a Sebenza without its born on date card, can you determine the blade material?

Thanks.

Flatlander1963, I emailed CRK as I had the same questions about there timeline for the different blade steels they put in the sebenzas.

This is their responce :

We began with ATS 34 and changed to BG 42 in October of 1996. In January of 2002 we began using S30V and continue to use it today. The ATS 34 and BG 42 do not have markings. We marked the S30V blades with an S and recently with a C if they were Classic 2000 blades and not the standard Sebenza profile. Since we have discontinued the standard profile (except for our annual Limited Editions) we just mark the blades with a S. If your blade is not marked you may get an indication of the steel by the markings on the side of the handles. For a very long time (we do not have an exact date) we marked each handle run with an A, B or C depending on if it was the first, second or third run of the and the final two digits of the year. Example A02 for handles made in the beginning of 2002. This may give you an indication of the blade material, but is not a guarantee. I know Sebenza owners love to swap out faces and some even try to fit different blades especially on the second hand market. I hope that answers your questions. Please let me know if you have any more.

Hope This Helps, ENJOY !!!

If you have a "P" marked Sebenza, the old, classic style, it will be ATS-34.

If you have a numbered new style Sebenza, there is a good chance it is ATS-34. The later ones were BG-42.

Any new style (un-numbered) Sebenza or a "Classic 2000" is bg-42 or S30V, you can tell by checking the blade for an "S" (you'll have to take her apart to find it).

Any Sebenza 21's will have an S30V blade.

Thanks Guys...it would hard to get a question answered any better or quicker than that. +1:thumbup:

I bought a Jerzee Devils Sebenza from a fella on that forum and the blade has nothing on it I can see. Where would the marking for the type of steel be on the blade? At present I have no allen wrench this size to take it apart. I intend to rectify that today, though.

Does Chris Reeve sell replacement clips? Mine appears to be sprung and will not hold the knife on my pocket. I have lost it several times, thankfully always in the house.

Thanks,

Big John

Yes, you can order replacement clips from CRK. As you have noticed, the blade marking isn`t visible when the knife is assembled. It`s close to pivot hole, and easily visible once the knife is disassembled.

I just got a two smalls in a trade, one a classic, the other a regular. The date inside the handle for the regular is 05, the date for the classic is 02. S30V production started in 2002, so neither of my smalls have BG42. The date stamps are in different spots on the scales.
