Is there a way to tell the steel used in a Sebenza ??? Whether BG-42 ; S30V; ATS 34?? Any special markings. I see many for sale, but some do not have the BD Card !!! Just would like to know if there was a way to tell ??? Thanks In Advance......

There is a number inside the handle. Maybe CRK can tell you, going by that #????

The scale date is a good approximation. There is an FAQ at the top of the page that talks about time lines.

If the blade has an "s" on it it is s30v.

BG42 blades are not maked.

ATS-34 blades show up mostly in older models

Hey nyefmaker, shoot me an email. I just asked CRK the same question in regards to a SEB I just bought. Some good info. I'll fwd their email to you.

Since there are others asking about this I've decided to post the response I got back from CRK. It should be very helpful to those not knowing what steeel their SEBs have.

"Thank you for your email. The "Pheasant Tail" is one of our older computer generated graphics. I believe when we started that design we were using the BG42. We continued with the design when we made the switch to S30V. At that time all S30V blades were marked with an S. Another good indication is the markings on the inside of your handle. For example A02 was a handle produced in the first part of 2002. The first blade steel we used was ATS34 then in 1996 we switched to BG42 and in 2002 to S30V. I hope that clears it up. Let me know if you have any other questions."

I have a similar email CRK sent me, I will post it as soon as I can after christmas. Thanks, this is very helpful, as many you see on ebay do not have the BD cards, this will help distinguish them.
