I have a collection of 12 Small Sebenza of various configuration, but only carry one; a small plain jane 21. It is the perfect EDC! Should I disassemble the knives in my safe so as not to weaken the lock bar tension? Will the set tension weaken over time if left unused for many years? Your thoughts/insight is greatly appreciated.

I'm curious to see the responses on this, however, I believe the only way to weaken any spring is by continued use.

I would leave them together. I can't see enough of an increase in life from being stored in pieces. I have a user Sebenza that is pushing 20 years and still works great. Your collector versions should be just fine. So what type are they. Pictures??

No reason to take apart. They are designed to tolerate the constant tension. Think about it, the knife spends most of its life closed, not open. As for storage, I keep mine in a maxpedition dodecapod. I have 3 of them filled I think currently and all but one or two knives are CRK. They are nice and soft and more than enough protection for the knives. Especially if you like to take them out to admire often.

Blade springs and bar locks can actually be "rested" by leaving them in the open position(whole) in the display or storage compartment of your choice but, you will probably not notice a difference in your lifetime. If you are overly concerned, you can apply a small amount of CLP to the working mechanisms and leave them in the open position in your safe. Before you do that however, consider the time they will be in storage because it really won't do you much good to apply CLP if they will be stored for less than 10 years, are free of ANY and ALL moisture, and/or will be used on occasion over the course your lifetime.
