Hello.

If you could choose your Sebenza with sv30 or sv35 which would you choose. There seems to be a lot of talk about sv35 rolling its edge and not with sv30.

Any thoughts?

I really have not noticed any significant difference in use.

Seems slightly easier for me to put an edge on the S35VN, but not by a large amount.

Haven't heard any talk of that lately, and back when the talk was going on it was because of one bad Youtube video. Sal(at Spyderco), and Chris tested the steel because of this vid just so people would know the steel had no problems, and it didn't.
You can bet it was tested to the max before it ever went into production, so most knew the steel was good to go.

Talk can get out of hand because of bad information. Just part on the internet age, and you have to take a look at the bigger picture these days. Don't ever be swayed by the talk from one bad video.

These steels are so similar that you would never know the difference.
S35VN is more easy to work with for makers, and thats the main reason many have went to it.

Just get the knife you like the best no matter which of these two steels it has.

I would go with S30v for the simple reason I much prefer the older rougher stonewash finish on those blades with that steel.

The 35 is said to be an improvement over 30 by being 20% tougher while keeping an edge equal to s30. Having said that I can't tell a difference. In a folder I consider this to be somewhat of a moot point.

somehow S30V is for me the better one
S35VN is not bad but the older 30 is the one i prefer of the 2

Well, at least the topic isn't Idaho Made :) I defer to Chris to know what he is doing in all respects regarding his knives.

S35 all the way baby. I have two sebs at 60 HRC, one is s35 and the other is s30. After using both for around a year, I have to put s35 ahead. To me it seems like pretty much the same steel, but it is tougher. Seems to take harder use better (for me at least).

Just an FYI, it wasn't bad information. Lol, you could SEE the deformation in the video. Everyone saw it, not like he faked or something. It was spot on, I've had the same deformation on stock sebs. I've talked with numerous people with the same issue, deny it all you want.

"Chris tested the steel because of this vid"

Are you referring to the supposed 300 cuts he did and said it was still razor sharp?
