Hey I have a question for you sebenza collectors. As I was perusing the pictures of various sebenzas on the threads, has the thumb lug changed over the years? I see they went from one to two, but it looks like the shape evolved a bit over the years. can any one provide some concrete evidence for me? thanks

It doesn't look like it's changed from the Classic, but I'm not exactly sure. The regular and 21 are definitely the same.

One thumb lug is still standard. two is an option on the 21. But the 25 and Zaan come with two

If you look at early Sebenzas, you will see hand cut grooves in the thumb lugs. I am not sure when they changed over to the current machined versions.

the back of the lug (single) is in some flat, in some is has a "cone" shape, the rest (front) remains the same , on mine 2010-2014

The H's, P's and Original Sebenzas had the conical shaped lugs with filed ridged on the side for traction. When the Sebenza was redesigned in 1996 to the "Regular" profile, the thumbstuds changed to the stacked pyramid shape we have today. Actually there are a few, very rare, originals out there with the redesigned stacked lugs that were released just before the change in 1996.

Additionally, the earliest stacked, pyramid-shaped thumblugs had more tiers than the current model. I've seen some early lugs with 7 or 8 tiers. Sometime in the late 90's or around 2000 they changed to the current 4-tier design.

Hope this helps.

Yes it most certainly does. Thank you for the details! ive had one bad experience with a knife that had a poorly placed and poorly shaped thumbstud. Thats why i figure id do my research before committing to a knife of this caliber.
