Hello Everyone! Does anyone here know a good way to remove the thumb stud from the sebbie ? I Thought of pushing it out with a drill press but I want to hear Your suggestions... Has anyone thought of putting the blade in a freezer ? ;)

why on earth would putting it in the freezer help? just unscrew it.

he's probably thinking that it might be pressure-fit into the hole rather than screwed, in which case freezing the knife would minutely shrink the thumbstud - BUT it would also shrink the blade at the same minute ratio, since they are both steel, so even in theory I don't think that would help loosen a press-fitted part.

I watched the CRK video and they press them out with a small arbor press. I imagine you could put a pin in your drill press chuck and push it out that way ( if its a large drill press ) Definately support the blade, you dont want it to buckle.

You can use a dowel (slightly smaller) a tube or socket (slightly larger) and a vise.

I use a 5/32" pin punch and a bench block with masking tape on it to protect the finish. BTW: the pin is press fitted with a little locktite, and is made out of Titanium.

If this is a double thumb lug; please just send it back for service. I won't do any thing to it that you don't want. I promise.:)

So a few of you say that it can be removed, and I'll assume you mean removed intact. But in the Sebenza FAQ, Anne Reeve states that removing the thumb stud effectively destroys it, hence their instance that this procedure be done at their HQ/shop, where new studs can be had and affixed. What gives? I'm interested because I just bought a single stud Regular (+$35 for double studs! Is this standard pricing?). I figured it would be cheaper to find and attach a double lug myself, but it's not lookin' good now. Nevertheless, any ideas where to get extra Sebbie (or similar fitting) thumb studs/lugs?

I'm still new to this forum, and I'd appreciate feedback regarding whether or not I've committed a thread hijack with the content of this post/reply. To play it safe, I'll start a new thread for an additional question I have regarding studs.

Removing the existing stud ruins it as it is pressure fitted. I believe many of us thought you wanted to add an aftermarket stud. You will not find a cheaper and better thumb stud than just sending it to CRK and having it done correctly. $35 is the standard price for a double thumb stud. That way, if anything happens the blade, its under warrenty, if you do it yourself and say ( break the blade ), your up the creek.......

A single stud can be removed and replaced without harm.

I was just going by what the CRK dvd said and what I have been told by CRK through emails.
