I love the design of the Sebenza, except for its stud. personally, I dislike studs.

when i open studs, i have to bend my thumb down and use the front of my finger nails to push it open.

could a hole be added and replace the stud? i saw pics of the regular sebbie closed, and it seems impossible.

wut about classics, has it been done, possible?:D

theoretically should be possible. but i would think the thumbhole would end up being awfully small given the amount of blade to work with.

why are you unable to use the pad of your thumb to open a blade with a stud?

BlazenGem, are you pushing the thumblug away from the handle? This would make it hard to get to. Try pushing it forward toward the front of the handle and it should swing out more easily.

this little bit of information helped me tremendously when I was new to the sebenza

i do not have a sebenza yet. but all the knives that had lugs i had to use my thumb nail.

the problem for me is i do not generate enough power when i push with my thumb, and when i do, it hurts my thumb. :( weird i know.

Are you sure your fingers weren't preventing the blade from opening easily? I've done that more than once when I was getting used to one hand opening knives.

An opening hole on a sebbie would have to be very small indeed. Worse off than a stud IMO.

I find it pretty hard to believe that your thumb gets hurt opening studs. You should try opening studs with the thumb pad, pushing towards the handle front; you won't have to bend your thumb much. Opening holes may be easier, but some of 'em are kinda sharp haha. A chamfered hole is very nice however.

This is one of those things where it makes much, much more sense to move yourself toward the hardware, rather than vice versa. Just develop a little technique, for Pete's sake. It's easy. Reeve's studs work fine.

If you find the stud to be too sharp, knock its edge down with some rubbing compound... or better yet, grow some skin.

The basic act of using the knife in the real world will wear the stud in pretty quickly, due to the variety of abrasive media on your skin.

Per BlazenGem on a different part of BF, I don't his folks don't want him buying knives again any time soon. So, he may have time to work on his thumb strenght (and technique).
Please correct me if I'm wrong BlazenGem.

Anso, in Germany, makes folders with thumbholes and the blades are no wider than the sebenza(maybe even less). He just makes the thumbhole wider. and they are smooth and very easy to open.

alejandrino, does he have a site, email, or any pictures of the knives he do? that be great

There ya go. Jens puts a Spyderhole in some of his knives. You are better off getting a Spyderco, if all you want is the thumbhole feature. Anso knives are premium quality with pricetags to match. Jens is in Denmark. Btw, weren't you 'abstaining' from cutting tools for a while?

haha, yeah sort of. my parents let me use them again (for cutting boxes at Dairy Queen etc), providing I give them back to after I finish. I am also allowed to sell them off. Ill full privilage of them soon. i have been a good boy :D

It would be a lot easier to use a box cutter for cutting cardboard. Knives bind a lot more, plus you don't need to worry about your knives dulling so fast
