Ok...what's the trick???
Help teach an old dog a new one...

I have a few Sebenza's & a new Umnumzaan....I have always had trouble removing the clips when new...the screw always starts to bind right off the bat. I have to put something under the clip and to pry up at the same time to help loosen the clip as I try to remove the screw...if I didn't, and just tried to unscrew it... the screw, threads etc, would be destroyed

Same trouble when trying to put it back on...always gets in a bind...the clip is very hard to seat in the recessed area. In the past I usually just take the "edge" off the side of the clip to make it easier.

I know the clip fits tight in the recess, but I have never had any problem of the screws stripping or binding on my sebenzas. I know the screw will help pull it down into the recess when tightening it. Dont yet have umnumzaan to compare.

Umnumzaan is exactly the same as Sebenza'a... Clip, screw, recess area, etc...

I always remove mine and use the optional clip inserts.

When ever I pull mine apart for cleaning, I do notice that you have to pay special attention to the clip screw.

I think it is for 2 reasons,

1. The screw is very short
2. The design of the clip means that it does not sit exactly flat on the scale

These two things combine to make it a little difficult to line up the screw with the thread easily. If you notice there is tension on the screw as you remove it or put it back in, this is caused by the clip not sitting flat.

It's not a problem as the clip needs tension when in place to work properly.

Unless you have a screw that already has damaged thread I would say this is what you are experiencing. Lastly, care should be taken to not over tighten the clip screw as that will definitely lead to thread damage. The Ti is very soft and would strip very easily.

ive noticed this too. What helps me is by having the knife open or blade removed so that the locking bar isnt putting as much tension on the clip. Its a little more dangerous to work on an open knife but it helps the binding.

my small 21 shipped with an insert. i changed it to the clip in the car before leaving the strip-mall where it was sent to.

I had no problems of the insert coming out. i basically the screw caught teh insert a bit and was enough to lever it out.

from then on it was the clip only. that comes out easily enough: stick the hex key under the clip and lift (not pry) if it does not release easily. that works for me, but then again, i like scratches/wear/patina on that knife so if any occur its OK.

i did not remove the clip on my umnumzaan yet. i am waiting for the disassembly tool to be available then the whole thing will come apart. i NEED to see the pivot assembly. :)
