Sebenza & UMNUMZAAN differences?

I have taken interest in CRK recently and I am a little confused. What is the difference in these? There is also a 21 Classic. Sorry for the ignorance but I just can't see much difference.

The Sebenza has a pivot bushing. The Umnumzaan doesn't, but it has a ceramic ball on the lockbar, so bar rolls into contact with the tang of the blade, reducing wear. The Umnumzaan also uses the thumb studs as blade stops, and has orings on them to reduce wear/noise. The Umnumzaan also has a glass breaker.

Those special 0-rings around the thumbstuds, think about them as shock absorbers when you flick the knife open.

I still like the pivot bushing on my Sebenza though, Very very smooth action there.

Umnumzaan does look more tactical with the grippy texture on the handle, the glass breaker, the harpoon type false edge, and the oversized pivot. Good deal for only $15 more than the Sebenza 21. I prefer the more refined and Spartan look of the Sebenza though.

The Seb also comes in two different sizes and AFAIK, the Umnum is one size only.

BTW, the Classic and 21 are two different models. They are very similar, though. The 21 is the currently produced version. The Classic lasted from 2000 to 200(8)? The only differences I'm aware of are that the 21 does not have the Roman numerals XX on the lock side and the handle edges are beveled more than the Classic edges were.

So, does the Umnumzaan have the initial resistence when opening like the Sebenza?

Once you get past the detent it's smooth sailing all the way to lock up on the Umnumzaan

My Sebs have a similar feeling detent but the action feels almost like a piston with a little bit of dampening compared to the Umnumzaan.

The Sebenza design is over twenty years old.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I do find the Um requires less effort to open and Seb feels more hydraulic but the difference is MINUTE

This isn't an answerable question, in any sense that can have real meaning for you. Don't get me wrong. You're asking a good and valid question, but all you can get are opinions, and semi-technical answers, but no real personal truth.

An interest in CRK is a great start. Both knives are made to the finest quality, with impeccable fit & finish and provide real pride of ownership and great utility. They're very different. Some folks like one over the other (and vis versa). Some love & value & need to own both. Where does that leave you?

Maybe based on someone's answer you'd think you might prefer one over the other. I've handled both. I have a definite preference, and whichever it is wouldn't be meaningful to you. So, I won't say. Ultimately you might decide to own a few.

Start somewhere. Buy one... you can't go wrong. If in the unlikely scenario where you really don't care for one you've gotten... if it's a retail purchase, you can always return it and make a different choice.

Sometimes folks don't like my answers, I think if you know yourself well-enough and your own needs... whichever you select, you'll probably love... and come back for more in the future. GL (just my $.02)
