Sebenza use on firesteel

(FYI: A firesteel is a rod of a special metal that will give off sparks when scraped.)

I can usually use the spine of the blade in most knives to scrape a firesteel. Works fine. The benchmade 710 is perfect for this, since the spine has a nice 90 deg angle with the side of the blade. I was disappointed to find that the slight rounding on the Sebenza is enough to keep it from sparking. Just slides off. Of course, it'll work if I use the edge, but I'd rather not do that.

Anyone else have this problem? If so, how'd you fix it? I'm tempted to file a flat spot on the top of the blade, but I'm afraid it'll look bad. If (when? :-) I order another Sebenza, can I get it without the smoothing on the spine?

Use matches or get yourself a smaller CRK fixed blade.

Flattening out the spine will void the warranty.

It's best to call CRK and ask if they can make the spine flat.

The thumb-rest groove's on the spine will make a firesteel spark (just tried it!)
