Sebenza vs. BM 942 revisited.

I just picked up a BM 942 that is a black on black model. This is a first production run, #0751/1000. I think I will be carrying this along with my large woody 'benza. The action is smooth and grind lines are great. Even came razor sharp although I put it on the 204 just to be sure. It definatly is not the heavy duty blade my woody is but will make a nice utility blade, plus it looks good in the all black version. Even though it is very close to the same size as my Sebbie it is nowhere near as heavy duty feeling. Of course this is a totally subjective call on my part.

Must say I do like the shape and feel of the 942, but it or the Sebenza? No contest. SENENZA ALL THE WAY!!!

Art, I got them both and like them both, but I carry my small Sebenza everyday.

I know what you guys mean. A have a BM730 and love the Axis lock. It’s incredibly smooth and fast. I’ll have to take the word of others that it’s strong though, as I haven’t hammered on it myself. It’s so smooth that it feels weak, if that makes any sense. Don’t get me wrong. I’m sure that the Axis lock is tough as nails, but it doesn’t inspire confidence in me. It seems too good to be true.

I’m also not too big on intricate mechanics. I like things plain and simple. That’s where the integral lock really shines. You can tell how good your lockup is on a Sebenza just by looking at it. Either the lock bar engaged far enough or it didn’t. It’s that easy. If I was really beating on my 730, I’d always be worried whether one of the little springs had broken or not. I won’t even go into which knife is easier to take clean, and my knives get very unclean while gutting and cutting a half dozen walleye for the grill.

I like the BM730 a lot. It’s a blast to play with, but I guess I’m an integral guy at heart. My dad brought me up with the attitude that less is more, and I think he’s right. Keep it simple. Build it strong. All I have to do is not be stupid.
