I own a small regular seb and a large classic seb. These knives are perfect. I am interested in the buck mayo TNT because it is a beautiful design. I need some opinions on whether I should even bother buying it or will I be disappointed because quality is not like a seb. Help me decide. Thanks.

Quality not like the Sebenza, don't expect that, you'll be dissapointed, BUT it is a great knife.

If you're interested in trying a new design, you can go for the Buck... But if you're looking for a better-made knife than the Sebenza... hum... Can be that you're not on the right planet :D

The Buck Mayo is certainly a nice knife, but it's not on the Sebenza's level. You'd have to get one of Tom's own TNTs to really make a valid comparison.

If you're looking for Sebenza quality and TNT design that there is no other way than getting Tom's custom TNT. Buck is nice, but towhere the quality of Seb. I used to have one so I know.

The Buck TNT is in the ballpark of half the price of the sebbie and is a nice knife, IMO. Not as nice as a sebbie, but for half the price I would say get one if you see one for sale. I carry one regularly and am very happy with it. For the price I think they are very hard to beat.

A real Mayo one the other hand is like twice the price of a sebbie. If you can afford that and can actually find one for sale, go for it.....

I owned a Buck Mayo, it's a very respectable knife. The TNT and BUck Mayo are a little bit different philosphy then the sebs. The handles are slimmed and drilled, the blade has a more acute bevel.

There where a couple of small issues with the ergos I didn't like. The "horns" and not so great access to the lock bar, some sharp edges here and there that shouldn't be. But a very decent knife especially for the $130 or so they are going for now used. If you like them I would reccomend you not hesitate to pick one up. Even given they aren't quite as nice.

If you are a buyer of micarta or unique graphics sebs, some Mayo tnt are going for around 1/3 more. If you have been buying LE wood inlays, then some have been only $50 more.

If you are expecting it be of the same quality as the Sebenza, you WILL be very disappointed!! I have one. It is a nice knife, but no where near the quality of the Sebbie!!

Seems a strange place to ask the question, honestly.

Anyhoo, I stumbled across this thread so I thought I'd offer my impressions. I'm not sure what "not as nice" exactly means, but I don't miss my sebenzas in the least. I have a 172 that I EDC, and it handles that role VERY well. I had 3 sebenzas, and while they are nice, I just didn't "get" them. I find the quality on my PARTICULAR example to be just as nice any of the Sebenzas that I had. I find the 172 easier to grip and less slippery than the sebenza. I also have as much access to the lock bar as I had on either of the Regular sebenzas that I had (this issue, by the way, is the reason I preferred the classic sebenza I had last and still prefer the classic version).

In the end, I have to say that the fact you asked the question in here tells me that you'd be disappointed if you got an example that wasn't as nice as your sebenzas. The 172 is a good knife, and if you don't judge it with the same eye you judge a sebenza I'm sure you'd be more than happy with the knife.

I hope you are able to decide! I'll look in to see if you end up getting one, as I'd be interested in your impressions!!

Thanks for all the replies. I find that I keep comparing all my folders to the seb. I tend to make purchasing decisions based the the seb quality and other knives tend to be disappointments. I better just save my money and buy more sebs.

Exactly, that's pretty much what I do too.

With a few exceptions where I know what it is I'm getting ahead of time.

If you are still looking for something other than a Sebenza, I should reccomend you Rick Hinderer. He makes knives that I have heard from several people are on par with the Sebenza in terms of fit and finish and quality. I have also heard he grinds a SHARP edge.

I wouldn't mind a Flame Gen II with a flipper and G-10 inlay, myself.
