Hi All,

Just a quick question... after looking through the past posts on the merits of these two knives, I keep coming across the words " no magnetic signature" in reference to the Mission Folder. Now does this mean that you can walk through a metal detecter at the airport with this thing or what? Is there some other purpose for an all titanium knife besides corrosion resistance that I'm missing here?

I'd seriously consider going for the MPF but I just bought a small Sebbie and I'm real happy with it

Funny thing, I've been working with a guy all summer and we've gotten to be good friends. I was talking about knives with him tonight and he mentioned that his dad is a full time knifemaker with his own company. I asked him which company and he said Mission Knives! I said "You're S******G me!"

Wow, small world!

A magnetic signature may pass a metal detector (as in an airport) but I would not risk it. Security people do not look kindly on people that try to sneak things onto planes. I was speaking to a man at Mission Knives, based in Irvine California, about 5 miles from where I live. He said they made some large (10 inch blade) titanium fixed blade knives for the navy seals to test. Some of the seals thought it would be funny to get a big knife on to an airplane. They were caught and it took a lot of talking to keep these men out of jail. Anyway, this man said that titanium blades are used to detect land mines. Apparently metal objects will detonate a mine. He made it clear that even though the knives may pass a metal detector, he strongly recommended that such knives not be used for that purpose. The penalty for detection is not worth the risk.
