Sebenza vs Strider PT ?

Hello everyone,
I am sure this has been discussed before, but being new here I was wondering if anyone here owns a Strider PT and how does it compare to
the Sebenza. I have a Stars and Strips small Sebenza and I think it is
great, but I dont carry it. I carry a Microtech mini SOCOM most of the
time and I like the Micros, but their pocket clip sucks because of the two
I own, both pocket clip screws have striped out of the frame !! I was thinking
of trading the Sebenza for a Strider PT, but what do you guys think ?

Thanks,
Ram

If you don't like and or don't carry the stars and stripes sebenza you might as well trade it for a PT.

I had a PT, actually a nice customized PT, but it still was a PT and I sold it. Make sure you get a chance to examine and return any PT, there was a time when a large percentage of PT's had blade play. Also standard PT are worth around $225 to $250, your seb even used should be worth more.

The PT has the lock bar cutout (the relief to make bending the lock bar easier) on the outside and I think this makes for more wear on the edge of your
pants pocket each time you pull the knife out of your pocket.

The Sebanzas have that cutout (relief) for the lock bar on the inside so that there is a smooth surface rubbing on the edge of your pocket.

I think Strider has gotten better about the blade play. Although, I would want to handle the one I plan to buy (assuming I was ready to buy one).

I bought SMF's because I wasn't using my Large Seb. The lock up is great on both knives. If you are really going to get rid of the Seb, I suggest going to a SNG because it has the Hinderer Lock Bar system and as far as I can tell the PT does not.

FYI, I am back to using my Seb as an EDC; so what goes around comes around. You may find yourself kicking yourself and buying another Seb in the future.

Thanks for the reply. I did read about blade play with the striders, but
people were quick to say it was an isolated and not the norm. Dont get me
wrong I love my Sebenza, but since I dont carry it I was looking for an
alternative to the Micros. I do realize that there is a cost difference between
the Seb and Strider. I would probably sell it and buy a Strider, but I may
have to continue my search. Just wanted the opinon of those who have
owned both.

my strider fit and finish wasnt a+-but it has zero blade play

its a nice knife-but i think you get more with a sebenza as for as precision fit

IMHO PTs are too small, go SnG if you go Strider.

FYI I also like a large Classic Sebbie frame the best. So I like larger knives.

I just did what you're looking to do, but my Sm Seb was my EDC for about 1.5 years. I hate the clip on the PT as it makes the knife ride very high. I've had 5 Striders and all had no issues with blade play, while one of the the two Sebs I bought did have the very slightest hint of blade play. I like the ergos of the PT more, but it does cause some hotspots on hard cuts. As far as strength goes, they seem about equal, but the PT appears to be better suited for everything from work to play and everything in between. The Seb appears to be better for typical EDC as it's much less in your face, but I really like how the PT looks with its aggressive looks in such a small package. If they were dogs,I would think of the Seb like it's a Lab, while I think of the PT like it's a Staffordshire Terrier; both are very good at their jobs, but the Staffy looks and acts a lot more edgy.
For what it's worth, I do plan on buying a Seb again, sooner or later.

Lots of opinions on this, but personally the Seb won hands down over the PT to me.

The Only area it does not win to me is in how the PT makes a killer little money clip, and is great just to carry free in your pocket. As with any Strider - they are just so absolutely cool looking. (Only the Hinderer XM18 look cooler to me)

If you are just cutting paper - you probably would never care if you swapped them out, but if you ever want to whittle - that rounded spine and hollow grind will be greatly missed on the seb, and you will also see a big difference in food prep (peeling apples etc).
You might also miss the thicker tip, if you ever see your self prying a little.

The clip on the PT is the lockbar stabilizer for that version.
I had a couple of instances with my PT, that I pushed hard on the back of the blade-spine and it closed on me - choil prevented any issues, but it still happened.
(although I have never had that issue with a SNG).

With a seb - the harder you push on the back of the spine - the tighter it locks up - fact.

Always remember - the reason why a Seb does not have a lockbar stabilizer, is because it is not needed due to the inside cut on the TI.

The above post was a correct statement concerning you might want to swap for a sng instead, actual blade length for a small classic seb is identical with a SNG.

My advice would be to keep your seb, and trade into a PT, or buy one - you will most likely regret letting go of your seb, unless you are getting into another one. - just my opinion.

The Regular small seb however is just a skosh shorter than the sng.

I have had 3 Striders - PT and 2 SNGs.
I have only kept one SNG - it is killer.
Have had 3 Sebs, got rid of one only becuase I just wanted a change.

Have beat the crud out of all of my sebs (batonning etc) - never any play.
The Striders that are gone however - I could not say that about - thus they hit the road.

Sriders are cool, but don't let the simple elegance of a Seb fool you into thinking they are not tough - for the "hard use" (to me that means wood working / cane making /batonning occasionally etc.) that I have put my blades through - I would choose a Seb over a Strider as my only knife everytime, but it took several purchases, and some disapointments before I came to that conclusion.

Good luck with your decision.

Be Well.

thanks everyone for all your opinions and first hand knowledge. I think I will keep my Seb like everyone recommends and trade into an SNG.
Barrabas, could you post pics of your Sebs and Striders so I can compare
size ? Thanks again for keeping me from making a mistake.
Please post any pics you have.

Thanks,
Ram

Nice choice of knives!

I am with you all the way on your comment "love them all in their own way". I use all of my CRK and Striders regularly.

If you are ever looking for a new home for your Hinderer XM 18..... you know the rest

:)

WOW:eek: Now I want a Hinderer ! why did you do that to me !!:D
If that's a large Sebbie then the SnG is considerably larger than
a small Sebbie. I like to keep my knives to about the size of a
small Sebbie and no larger than a Microtech Mini SOCOM.
Thanks for the great photos !! Wow..Hinderer....

SnG and Large Sebbie are very close to the same size! The PT is a little dude, yet very stout!

The Hinderer XM-18 is in a league of it's own these days!

Nice collection!

So-Lo - you Sir, are the man

SWEEEEEEET Looking collection.

Rosconey -cool looking Ti Dye on your flipper, and nice looking set up there as well.
