I'm just curious if this is a common problem? I have owned 5 Sebenza's, which i know is not many compared to some of you lucky maniacs, but none the less i think it's enough to make me think a sticky lock face should not be a sebenza issue.

Every Sebenza i've ever owned slipped the lock open perfect and smooth.

I just acquired an absolute beauty... a Lg Reg Serrated Sebenza. It is pre-owned but in excellent condition. My only issue is that the lock face is a little bit sticky while disengaging.

My question: Has anyone else had this problem? If i send this knife into CRK can they make it go away?

Maybe i'm crazy or OCD, but i do not like the feel or sound it makes when opening this lock and feeling the tang crunch the lock face.

ok thanks in advance!

Have you taken it apart to do a full clean/re-lube of it? There might be some gunk that is there. You can also try to put some pencil graphite and draw on the tang. That might help.

If all else fails, there might be a bad heat treat on that lockbar face. I had to send my Sebenza back for that once.

Hopefully taking it apart will help. Good luck and let us know.

Very Well Said !

Let us know how you make out after the thorough cleaning ?

Hey I forgot to mention that it has been taken down and thoroughly cleaned! That was the first thing I did.

Thanks

I had one that i got used, and it had a really sticky lockbar, i cleaned it very well several times, i tried the pencil trick, and i send it in to the spa...none of those things worked...i spoke with heather and she said that they didnt see any problems with it but i can send it in again, but i didnt want to send it back in again and be out another $30 in shipping for the spa not to be able to fix it, so i sold it on the cheap cause it bothered me so much...i hope you are able to get it back to being smooth...

well so far i've tried everything, including the graphite trick, and nothing works. I will call CRK monday and i guess send it out. Hopefully they can make it smooth. thanks for the help everyone!

I had this problem on a knife (not a sebenza) and it was resolved by polishing the blade tang where the lockbar engages. I put some green stropping compound on a Q-tip and polished it a little, and it made a big difference.

There was a thread when I just joined the forums where one person posted a photo of a damaged lock face on a Sebenza. It looked like a cavity was forming in the lock face with clear damage to the heat treat. That is the only visible sign I know of that is an indication of a lock HT being a problem, other then that the pencil trick is always a good start.

How sticky is sticky? Example: I haven't had any liner lock / framelock knife (including three other CRK's) that unlocks as smooth as my Umnumzaan. My Lg. Regular seems to "stick" a bit more then the 21 or Small, however it's not "stuck" on the blade by any means. I don't mind it at all, it's a minor factor in my mind.

I actually prefer for there to be a little bit of stickiness. Gives me peace of mind and means more material for wear I believe.

As far as I can remember the sticky problem is when you try to unlock the knife you have to push so hard it actually sounds like it pops open ie, you have to use a considerable amount more force to open the knife.

i know it's been a long time comin, but this knife was finally sent out to CRK and i'll be getting it back this week. I will write an update as soon as i can. Thanks.
