Being a slipjoint kind of guy, I'm usually lurking and posting in the "Traditional" Forum. But I like to come over here and visit from time to time, especially since I own (and use) some Leeks and am looking forward to the new Ti-ZDP Leek nearing release. Well, I picked up a Sebenza (I guess I can say Sebbie, now that I own one). I got it in a multiple knife trade, even though I wrote them off as too expensive for a non-antique knife.
I thought I'd just try and sell it, but this knife wooed me, and won me over!! What a sweet machine! Light and handy, unbelievable fit and finish. Superior materials; now I know what you Sebbie guys are talking about! This knife was made to do what a pocket knife does, and then some! No way I'm lettin' this baby outta my sight!
So I'd like to know about BG-42 steel at R60-61 before I sharpen it, not that I have to right now. And If anyone knows how many of these were made in 2001, I'd appreciate hearing from you!

Solar Wind ... VERY nice. Congratulations, and welcome to the club! :D

My Sebbies are BG-42. The edge holds up real well. When I do sharpen them, I use the Sharpmaker, lightly. I just use the corners of the rods, not the flats, and I sharpen at 40 degrees first and then at 30 to cut the shoulders back, generally just on the white rods, actually, to polish the shoulders.

I have beaten on the tanto blade a couple of times to the point where I had to really work on it to get the edge back. The secondary bevel is now convex again. I just pulled it out of the desk to play with it when I saw your post. I forgot quite how sharp I'd gotten it!

Dear, you should've changed your password. ***********

P.S.
I HATE YOUR **** GUTS!!!

I hate it when that happens. :D (edited for lauguage)

Nice score! Sharpening takes a little more time than your carbon slippies. If you have a Queen D2 it will be like that, without having to reprofile the whole blade :)

Congrats on the Solar Wind!! That is a beauty!!! And congrats on your first Sebbie!!

Thanks for all the advice, and comments, everyone. I checked out the links you provided, Esav, very informative. I can't believe I'm on this path! I'm mostly interested in knives 100 years old, plus or minus. I guess this passion for Leeks, and now for Sebbies is like the computer. I'm an old fart:o , refused:eek: to have anything to do with computers until approx. five years ago, now I can't live without them! Imagine missing BF  !!
Some technology just can't be denied:D !

Nice design, first time I saw the Solar Wind pattern.

IMO, the Sebbie is one of the most unpretentious yet undeniably effective folders out there.

We have quite a few folks who don't like them for various reasons and quite a few folks that love them (count me in on the latter), but that is what makes the world go 'round.

Waynorth, as a multiblade addict like me, if you think the Sebenza is the cat's P.J.'s just wait until you get to play with a Mnandi. Lots of strength in a small package that looks pretty classy to boot. At that my favorite thing about Reeve knives is still Anne and Chris.

Yeah, saw those nice Mnandis, Bastid, appealing to my ergonomic sensibilities. All the goodness of a Sebbie maybe, but in a prettier package! Hmmm, I just gotta stop somewhere.
Or do I?? Groan!!

Nice Solar Wind!

Its my favourite graphic model. I have the same one in S30V. Mines quite scratched now but has never let me down.

Solar wind is also my favorite graphic design.

Now, all you need is an Mnandi. I think it would work well for you since you like more traditional type folders.

Congrats on a great knife! I've been EDC'ing mine since 2004. It's a small Native American CGG.

Nice to hear everyone's comments. You all attest to the goodness of that knife! What if you looked around and everyone you could see had a Sebbie clipped to their pocket?? I still don't think it would be a boring knife! I guess I'd want shares in the company :D !

Chris designs every one of his product line with great care.....
'
Unlike a lot of companies, he keeps making the same thing, year after year, with little variance, just more new ideas!!!!!

You gotta love the guy!!!!!:D
