Hey. I only recently noticed the hole in the frame on the Sebenza, and it apparently has something to do with manufacturing, so I was wondering when they started doing this? I thought it was a relatively new thing.

Are there any models or batches without the hole? I'm mostly just curious. The single hole seems out of place.

I do believe they have always had that hole. And yes it is for manufacturing. The 25 does not have the hole. If this is not right I am sure some with much more knowledge will correct me.

To the best of my knowledge, the H Sebenzas did not have it and the "hole" began showing up in the "P" and "Original" Sebenza time frame. It continued though the "Regular" sebenzas and is still currently used on the "21". With the new "25" design, the hole is no longer used.

The "hole" is used as an alignment fixture during the mfg of the knife. If you look, its where the spring part of the framelock starts. All slabs are cut the same, but after that point, they are chamfered and finished on opposite sides to complete the scales. Pretty Cool....!!! The hole on the non locking side on CGG/UG Models are sometimes the centerpiece of the engraving or used to adorn stones and gems of various origin.

There are a couple of cool videos about 25 minutes in length each that show how the Sebenzas are made, a Part 1 and a Part 2. Highly recommended viewing, you can easily Google them.
