I was wondering do people that Sebenzas do you use these knives in every day work for cutting things or do most of the Sebenzas get put away and admired. Anyone use them for cleaning deer during hunting season? I'm not trying to start an fight here but just wondering.I do have a large and do not use it much it sits must of the time being unused. I do like it very much but do not use it.

All of the regulars or plains that I possess are users. But, I do have several, that aren't regulars or plains that are behind glass.

I have a Classic that I use during hunting and fishing season.

I bought my small to use everyday. Have other nice knives, but I love my Sebenza near by.
Its up to you.

I don't like buying things just to look at them and feel the same way about my Sebenza. When I bought it I planned on using it and I do. I haven't cleaned any deer with it as I don't hunt anymore, too expensive for me. I do use it around the kitchen and in fact used it this weekend to separate two slabs of pork ribs in prepartion for cooking. You can't ask for a more solid folder.

It has gotten some scratches on the scales and a few scratches on the blade from sharpening but then again why have such a solid folder and not use it.

It would get used more but it is only one of several EDC knives that I normally carry.

Well, I don't hunt but do use mine everyday, box cutting/straps, ropes and wire stripping as well. I recently had a wood inlay up for a visit from a fellow in Florida that he has used since 1999, Electrician and used hard everyday, still locked up tight and blade was still sharp. There are some that are for looks, as there are many knives in that catagory but even those are made with a real blade and solid lockup so depending on how much you want to spend you can get a REAL user for a lot of money.

If you don't use yours, is there a knife you do use? Or do you not need a knife? If so, then you can still certainly admire the knife...;)

Also there are several threads regarding this, use the search function and Sebenza AND using to find some some more history on the subject...

Just used mine last hour to trim some leather! ;)

I use my small everyday. the beauty of this knife is how well it preforms cutting tasks. If I get a deer this year, My small sebby with field dress it along a fixed blade.:)

I got my LCS (Large Classic Sebenza) to be my EDC (Every day carry)
and that is what it is, I've normally got a Leatherman WAVE
with me, So I don't offen use the Seb. to pry.

But I've put quiet a few marks on it from carry,
I still love the design of the knife and I think it
only looks better with a few wear marks.

Use it! :)

I'm unemployed at the moment which means I don't wear city clothes, live in a rural community, and can carry a fixed blade most of the time. When I'm not carrying a FB however, either here, or when I'm working and in my city clothes, my folder of choice is either my large (rural) or small (city) Sebenza, so both get used.

Mine are both plain models and for my taste not very pretty knives so they aren't worth putting in a case and admiring them. They sure are great using knives though!

To Gary W. Graley yes I do use knives every day at home or at work there is never a time I do not have a knife on or around me has been that way for the last 35 years! I can afford any knife I want but I was just wondering if people use higher end knives or just kind of put them away and look at them.
I was just thinking of getting another one A small one then I thought why if it's just going to sit around. I know that some knives are for collecting but I was just wondering what most people here do with them. Thanks RON

Good Ron, what type do you use? If the Sebenza isn't working out for you, I'd sell it and invest the money into a knife that is more appealing, I'd HIGHLY recommend the small wood inlay Sebenza Classics, for some reason they are not priced as high as a regular wood inlay and man they are sweet! I'm itching to snag one of them when I see a good buy on one...had one for a visit, from that same fella from FL and that hooked me! It is very nice!

ps
Check this thread out concerning Using Expensive Knives lots of good information there!

ALSO Captain Ron Just came out on dvd, available tomorrow, I had it pre-ordered, one of my favourite movies...your name reminded me of that! ;)

IMHO, the Sebenza begs to be used. It is pure function and it works. On another plane: function=beauty. They cut like crazy and defy the hardest use.

A carry and use my large Classic Sebenza every day. Great performance and very strong. I couldn't buy a knife this expensive and not use it. Actually...... I couldn't see buying any knife and not using it. And surely, I couldn't see buying a knife this ugly, and just displaying it in a glass case. My Seb 'aint pretty, but she's as functional as I've found in a folder.

Hands down, the best value I've found in a working folder, so far.

My small Sebenza is my general purpose, EDC knife. I have several others that are used for specific purposes, but the Sebbie is almost always in my pocket. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for hunting or fishing.

I was unable to use my first sebenza. I just couldn't bear to scuff up my most expensive knife. I bought a small classic with some wear on it and started using it. I sold my pristine knife to another forumite and he has used it happily. I have since gotten the large sebenza and the umfaan and use them all, but I can understand and identify with those who don't use them. My advice is to take the leap and use and carry.

I use a large Sebenza every day for any task where a knife is the proper tool. I don't abuse it, but it's cut some serious material. Holds an edge like a pro.

Like Gary I bought one of mine used, the large, because it came with some scuff marks on handel and even one light scratch on the blade, plus signs of sharpening, I had no concerns if I should use it. With small Seb I purcxhased new, yes, it took a while to "ease into" using it, however once I did there was no turning back!

I sold just about every knife that I own with the exception of the Sebenza with the intentions of making it my edc. I couldn't bring myself to use it so I ended up getting a Spyderco Lil Temperance for an edc. At some point I'm going to have to force my self to start using the Sebby. Maybe if I get a woody to sit around and look pretty, I'll use the plain.

When I got my first Sebenza (a plain small) I could not bring myself to use it. It was the first really high quality knife I had ever bought. So I bought another identical to the first a week later. I have been carrying it every day since I got it in 1998. I use the snot out of it, and I have never been happier with a knife. BTW my first one is still in my safe, unused.

Heck yes i use it, great cutting machine if there ever was one! I have a Large Classic in my pocket right now and i don't care about any scratches anymore because it cuts like a dream and it's built like a German Tank! hehe
