This is a little blade that I made for my sister, who has really gotten into hiking.
The sheath was made by someone else. Here is the blade:

I know it isn't the ideal blade for that sort of thing, but hey, this is only my second knife! The blade is 440C and the pins are posaic with green died epoxy in them! The lanyard is what I call a "Magic Knot", made by my girlfriend. I am working on a project I call my "Magic Knot" knife, and when it is done sometime in the next month or so, I'll be sure to post some pics!
The handle shape of the blade is awesome!! Somehow I shaped it just right, as it disappears in my sister's hand. It is a little small for me, but perfect for her.
Oh, it was her birthday present too. She sure was surprised!

Looks good - and as for being the right design for the purpose, I'd say it's just fine. When hiking, a knife is likely to be used mostly for slicing cord for repairs or garlic sausage and cheese for lunch. Even at camp, it gets used mostly for cooking type tasks. Nothing wrong with the design there.

The other thing a custom knife gets used for when hiking is showing off and bragging about a real cool brother. It will do just fine in that category too.

that's a cool knife! i like the curves in the pattern.
i made my grandpa, great grandpa, and my dad knives for christmas. they sure are surprised when they see a custom made knife in the box, made by a family member! i'm glad she liked it, but know everyone else in your family will want one too!
