Second Gen BK2 sheath on a 1st Gen

I have a 2nd Gen BK2 sheath that I am using on my 1st Gen BK2. The retention on it is insane. Typically, this might be a good thing, but when I say insane I mean that I hurt my thumb EVERY time I remove it from the sheath using the thumb ramp. If the knife is on my belt, it is near impossible to get out with one hand. I'm a strong guy, but this is just too much. From what I understood, the 2nd Gen BK2 had the EXACT same thickness as the 1st gen. Is this not true. My main question being, is this just the way the sheath is supposed to be, or is the 2nd gen sheath not designed for the 1st gen knife? Unfortunately, I don't have a 2nd gen BK2 to test this out with, so I am relying on you guys for info.

I've taken it in and out of the sheath at least 300 times in an effort to stretch the sheath out. I've wedged material in there for days in hopes that it would loosen up a bit. Nothing works. I would try heating it up, but my understanding is that the GFN sheath is not as workable as kydex.

The BK2 is a great knife, but I don't think the sheath is of any count. I have a gen2, and it was pretty stiff with the sheath it came with. You can file away a little of the are where the blade lock is to light the clasp, I tried that and it worked, my biggest issue is the fact that the sheath dulls the blade really quickly. Let me know if you want some leather for it, I can hook you up. Moose

I'm in the same boat as you. Ya it's super tight!
I have to use my index finger to pry up on the sheath lip while pulling the knife from the sheath the same way you normally would.
It's much easier to extract the knife prying a little with your index finger.
Hard to explain maybe you can see what I'm talking about from a few pictures.

Wow, sounds like you guys need some new sheaths!!! I know a guy who knows a guy that makes them. LOL. :D Seriously, the BK2 sheaths have always been an Achilles heel. I mean, the world's most perfect blade had to have some flaw, at least this one is in the sheath. Moose

Not to buck the trend, but I like my BK-2 sheath. The fact that it holds my blade tight and securely comforts me. I've heard some folks have had issues with dulling but if you take care to press the spine against the top of the sheath as you draw, that seems not to be a problem (for me anyway - ymmv).

My son's BK-7 sheath on the other hand - bleach! The BK-2 one is pretty cool though.

My BK-2 sheath was tight also. I took my hairdryer to it and used my fingers to pry the opening a bit. It releases much easier now.

Moose, do you have a link to see some of your leather?

Once I filed away some of the interior material on the edge side, I've been loving the sheath. It's not contacting the edge anymore. Tooj wrote that there are tolerances in the sizes of the knives and sheaths. If you have a slightly wider blade, it will probably rub the sheath. That was the case with my BK-2. It was ever so slightly wider than my 1st gen BK-2. Running a diamond file on the inside solved the problem.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of the overly textured thumb ramp, so I might file that down a little bit, but the retention is perfect for me. I only have to push off with my thumb, and that's with the micarta handle scales, too (which have more traction on the throat of the sheath).

im not sure which sheath i have, but its kydex and ambi.gen 1,or gen 2? the retention is perfect, and its very comfortable to draw.also,it doesnt touch the edge at all.
