Second Generation BK2...(tang cut-outs)

So i'm ready to purchase a BK2. I like how the newer knives have the tang exposed at the end of the handle for various jobs, but the newer BK2's have 2 cut-outs in the tang under the handles.
I'm curious if these cut-outs could realistically compromise the tang strength...(in real world applications).
Anyone have an educated opinion, or first-hand account of the differences in the first run versus the second run of the BK2?
Thanks.

I haven't had a look at the new ones, but I had an early one. It was WAY handle heavy, so the cut outs could only improve it for me. Believe me when I tell you this is a STRONG knife and the cutouts won't weaken it in the least. There is just no way you're going to break this knife unless someone shoots it out of your hand with a 50BMG!

You would have gotten a faster answer if you had asked this in the Bekcer sub forum.

But this quote is from the man himself regarding the new BK2

Hey dcbowtecher.....

The "NEW" Campanion is NOT thinner...........there are a couple of cutouts )as in the BK7 and BK9).......The pommel adds back a tich, but the only difference is a slightly more forward balance that will enhance chopping.......It is just as strong.....Please note that if laser cutting was doable when this knife first came out it would have had the cutouts....30 years ago !!!!

Please also note that it increases the cost of manufacture (the laser guys charge on a per inch basis......It is a change I was insistent on......and all concerned thought it an improvement..... Try the new one before you get too irritated with me........We all thought that the changes were so minor that there would be nary a ripple in the calm waters we love.......

All Best....
