Hello fellow Buck-a-holics. I got today Schrade made Buck 301. Identified by the swedge and long pull (thanks to 300 bucks for information) This knife has been thru alot, yet its solid as bank vault. No gaps, no problems in integrity.

I can tell that tips has been broken off and then its been reshapen. Don't let the round tip fool you, its not needle sharp but its razor sharp. I polished blades and sharpen knife and added bit oil on the joints. Excellent walk and talk. Love the long pull. Love the flat ground :D Now I can say this knife has alot character. It feels really comfy as its been carried alot and worn into very comfy state. Cuts like nothing else after bit resharpening (main blade had few tiny nicks I took off)

Well worth of $16 I paid.

I've carried a 301 in my pocket on and off since 1972. The same knife, all these years. I also have a "backup" 301 that I bought that year that I have never used.

I now generally carry a 110, Vantage Pro or Sirus in rotation, because I like the longer, stouter blade, but I have nothing bad to say about the 301.

I got almost similar made large stockman, made also by Schrade for Parker-Frost. Swedges and long pulls, but 301 has lowriding sheepshoof. Gotta love this :D... I just realized, this knife is older than I am...

thejamppa, your 301 there, was made by Camillus, not Schrade.

Late 70's to early 80's.

jamppa,

I feel like the snow on your roof has slid off in front of your door....
It is a Camillus version. The swedge on the top left corner of the clip blade must extend OVER the long pull for one half of the pulls length. On camillus stockmen it stops before reaching the long pull......
I send you hope and will go find a good photo to show you for future.

There is a another thread running which has several photos and descriptions on how to ID the difference in these two knives. TinSue likes to look in the blade well for rivets. I look for the clip blade swedge length, even if blades are closed. The small narrow swedge runs one half the length over the long nail pull in the Schrade. The Camillus has nothing above its long pull.

I had one just like that, carried it through high school. I eventually gave it to a scout in 1983, sometimes I miss it, though.

Nice find, I am a big fan of the older Buck 300 patterns. Should serve you well for many years.

Thanks for all. If its Camillus made, even better. This is really solid knife, even it has seen alot. This is solid user and I really like it, though I am not myself big stockman lover. For some reason I got slight urge to get modern 301 made by Buck from 420 HC and see how they compeare :D
