Hey fellas. I was lucky enough to get in on a flash sale last year, and scored a 3.5" spanto xm-18 flipper. I have always absolutely LOVED the aesthetic of Hinderers, and have heard nothing but great things about the quality, tolerances, grinds, etc. But to be honest, when I got it, I just couldn't stand the weak detent. Not saying it's a flaw in the knife.. I know there is a lot of argumentation over this point and it can be polarizing.. Lets just say it wasn't what I was hoping for, so I sold it. Now, I keep seeing hinderers and wishing for one again. There's just something special about the look in this knife that just keeps pulling me back in. So, I bought a 3" wharnecliffe flipper... I've always especially lusted after the wharny grind, and am glad I got the knife I did. Any advice for me, as a new (again) Hinderer owner?
Thanks all

If detent is your problem, I'm not sure the 3" wharnie will fit the bill. They have greatly improved the detent on the newer grinds (skinner and bowie)... I think that's probably the route you'd want to go to fill the detent need. That being said, you can't go wrong with any of them!

I have two new 3" XM's and the detent is perfect on both. They are not identical detents, but both are awesome with minor tuning. Sometimes the detent matter has more to do with what we "expected" than with anything "wrong" with the detent. I'm not saying that's the case here, but out of my several 3" XM's, all are not the same, but all are good and acceptable for me.

I recently got a 3" slicer (in Jan. of 2015) they definitely beefed up the detent. I had 3.5" spanto at the end of 2013 and it was the weaker detent, but my new one is much stronger. I wouldn't hesitate to snag one if that's the only issue you had with it before.
