For me it is absolutely perfect but then I designed it for my taste and carry preference.
I am working on a few for LEO as prototype and over the next 3 months we will work out any bugs before I will take any orders.
The weapon stays put on the hip and in the holster until needed.
Thanks for taking the time to look and comment.

That holster looks very cool....just wondering, doesn't LEO have certain retention requirements, and does this holster meet them? Also, the contrasting colored layer on top...does that have a function or is it meant to be a design embellishment?

I don't know squat about kydex, but I like the looks of thatun.

It is level II retention, it has a user manipulated lock at the top of the gun.
The second layer of kydex is part of the locking system.
The LEO that test my gear use it off duty or when in plain clothes as some of them have to do once a month.

Nice rig.

I joined just to tell you that... haha.. well, that and to maybe see if I couldn't trade knowledge with some people here.

I started making holsters 4 months ago and you caught my attention with the XD 3", which happens to be one of my favorite pistols to seat in a rig. They, like HKs, look fantastic in a proper holster.

I haven't played with Kydex yet but will be starting tomorrow. I can hardly contain myself. I plan on continuing with leather but have to get a sewing machine first... can't handle that hand-stitching nonsense.

Here's a pic or two in case you wanted to take a peek. Sorry if hijacking.

Your leatherwork looks good.
My holsters are in the prototype stage so it will still be a bit before I offer them as an option on my web site.

Thanks. Like I said... just getting started.

Do you mind if I ask if you glue those outer layers together? If so, what kind of adhesive? Is the info in this forum's archives?

Sorry if as a newbie, I'm failing to maintain my lane. I'm not looking to get you to disclose mechanics of your holster but would be lying if I said that I didn't think that the OD on black wasn't beautiful. A digi-style of overlay would look good, too.

Checked out your website. You're a crafty one... highly impressed.

The layers are not glued together, the second layer is necessary as it is part of the 2nd level of retention in my design.
I know of one other maker that has layered kydex but it was purely esthetic with no other function, there could be others but I have not found but one.

I really dig your sense of style, Kevin. I've seen layered kydex once before but it did not look anywhere near as tasteful or stylish. Maybe I'm way off, but there seems to be a lot of Japanese high-tech influence in your aesthetics? Shirow perhaps?

I suspect this "look" is something that people will try to imitate; it really doesn't look like anything else out there. Keep doing what you're doing!

Thank you much for your input and taking the time to look.
I have had many favorable comments regarding a high tech look to my designs.
When I started teaching myself the process of bending Kydex I strived to create my own style, my goal was to create a retention system that when worn could be identified as a TIE sheath by enthusiasts.
