Well there's a mix of success and failure in this one. I thought I'd post it though as my experience grows.

This is my second hamon and I think it turned out quite good. I really like the transition zone in the second photo.
It's 1095 with natural canvas micarta and black g10 spacer. The handle is heavily sculpted and is very comfortable.

I did have some handle troubles so if you notice that the rear pin is a little high... well...:o:(

It was also a very good learning experience in that the handle acted as a heat sink and I didn't notice that it wasn't hot enough.

Overall I'm happy with it as a personal kitchen knife. Learned my lessons.. I hope. :p

Thanks for looking.:)

Looks good Stu ! I love the handle, really like to see it in person.
That rear pin however ...

nice hamon, the only thing thats worrysome is how it drops off at the edge near the heel

That's what I meant by the comment about the handle acting as a heat sink.
When I tested for non-magnetic I checked closer to the middle of the blade and it didn't occur to me to check back at the heel.
Lesson learned.

ooops:o well, you could always grind the heel up to where the hamon drops off the edge:D

I really toyed with that idea and drew about 5 versions trying to fit a new knife into the profile of this one by grinding that away and it always looked weird.
If I had a torch I might have been able to heat the handle a little to bend it down and make it work.

Horrible.

In fact, horrible enough that I think you should send it to me. I am a licensed knife disposal expert. I have this place where I put them, you see, where they never see the light of day (some call it a butchers block).

But really, I would love a knife like that.

Even knowing about the pin, it really is not distracting to me.

That was good.

The knife is great though. Should make for a great kitchen knife. What is the blade thickness?
