Well, this one is almost done. Need another coat of TruOil and to polish the blade, but since this actually looks almost like a real knife, I had to post a picture. This is my second knife, and first attempt with my belt grinder.

Obviously, it's a semi-tanto profile with finger groove
Stock is an old file
Convex grind
Oak handles
TruOil
Brass pins(brazing rods)

It will end up with a more polished blade when I can get my hands on higher grit sandpaper.

Still looks a bit too much like a kitchen knife though, so gotta keep working on designs. :)

also a tip for you is to drop the rear of the handle so that it is not so ftick like, also whats wrong with good kitchen knives? favorite tactical weapon of a pissed off women.

Outstanding! Looks like one that will get regular use. I like the index at the bolster area.

Now try contouring your handles to better fit the hand and so as to present a more pleasing look (like curves on a pretty lady). Drop the handle a little, as Rhino says (CURVES).

Well done. Let's see more.

Looking good!
Be sure you keep your first couple blades. You will be suprised how much they change in a year or two:D

Nice! Looks a lot better than my second knife. My second knief wasn't useable at all. A word of advice though, do all of you hand sanding on the blade before you attach your handles. Once the handles are attached, there is no possible way you are going to sand the entire visible blade area in a one directional stroke.

Since your knife was ground from a file and has a straight handle, a real easy thing you can do to easily give it some contour is to hold the blade so the tip is facing up. I suggest you wear gloves and have a workrest attached on your sander for this one. Then, with the scale facing the sander, gentle rock the knife side to side a little bit, and it will give you an evenly rounded face. You can then round the corners off with slack belt, or even easier, a slack scotchbrite belt, and then use sandpaper backed by foam to round the corners.
