So in the past I have had the Chap 2 and it only stayed with me 3 days before it was gone. I just couldn't get into it from the start. Just received a Chap 1 in trade and I'm in love. It is excellent, and this is saying a lot considering I generally don't care for carbon fiber. It just feels amazing in my hand. I dont know if the metal frame is what turned me off the first time orthe lack of texture but the Chap 1 seems to be a whole different animal. Anyone else gave a knife a second chance and ended up loving it?

I think the Chap 1 is a great design. The fit and finish on mine was not so good when I got it. All of the wrong edges were wicked sharp and the polish was off. But, about a 1/2 hour of careful work I had it up to par. It is a great knife and I carry mine a lot. If I were State side I would carry it a lot more often. Superb design for a pocket knife. Take the clip off and drop it in your pocket where God intended a pocket knife to ride and you will appreciate it even more.

The one thing I have noticed that kind of worries me is the lock bar over engages. When I deploy the blade I have noticed the farthest bit of the lockbar protruding slightly above the frame and backspacer. Is this something that should alarm me or is this normal? I've never had another Spyderco lockback do this and I have had my fair share of them to compare.

Probably trash underneath. Or, it could be overly tight. Can you press it down with your thumb while engaging and have it lock up right?

It seems to be getting less and less the more I play with it. May have been something in the action. If I recall I don't think its been used very much so could just be breaking in.

CryoGuy, I started with the Chap 1 and liked it so much that I bought the Chap 2. The Chap 2 was a big disappointment for me. I found the edges on the Ti scales to be too sharp. They are uncomfortable and create hot spots. I've never handled the Chap 3 but my experience the 2 has kept me purchasing anymore of the Ti Chaps.

I still own the Chap 2 and plan to smooth those edges but I haven't got around to it yet. It's too bad that there wasn't a little more work put into refining those edges at the factory.

Selling, regretting and rebuying is sadly the process I seem to need to go through in order discover I really like a particular knife.
