Secondary blade capacity of the BK7/BK9 sheaths

I'm about to place an order at Tomar's but before I do:

I plan on ordering 2 x BK13 Remoras to go in the standard sheaths of the BK7 and BK9. Do these sheaths have the ability to hold a larger blade? i.e. can I put a 3.25" blade in there? Specifically I want to put a BK11 Necker and a BK14 EsKabar there instead but I don't want to buy them right now if they won't fit the sheaths. I know some will respond, "buy em anyway" and eventually I will however right now I just want to buy what will fit first.

Thanks for reading.

I think I remember trying this with my Necker about a year ago...IIRC, the necker "fit" in the outer sheath, but it stuck out enough that it blocked the retention strap on the sheath and made it really difficult to draw the BK9 (or BK7, depending on which one I was using). If you want to put a knife in that outer sheath, the Remora is a better choice.

The necker is too big for either sheath (I've tried it). Like sngen19 said, it sticks up too far. I'm pretty sure the remora is the way to go.
But I'd still buy em both anyway....:D

Remoras are just plain awesome any way as long as they are the American made ones. I carry mine everyday!!!! Great knives and great steel.

Thanks for the input. When I bought the BK7 (that I returned) I noticed the Remora that came with it was "Made in China" so I automatically assumed because it was a bonus knife, they were all going to be Chinese. Then going to Tomar's site, the Remoras are "Made in USA" so it just reinforced the importance of purchasing from reputable dealers.

As I said, eventually I'll go about buying the Necker and the EsKabar but at a later time. When Tomar's order is delivered I'll post a picture *finally* of my Beckers. I assume no one wants me to post pictures of my Glock Field Knife 78, Ontario RTAK-II or my Kershaw OSO Sweet in the BK&T Forum.

Thanks,
Arkanian

Just to review, the BK 13 that came with the BK 7 and/or the BK 9 was always made in china. I also should say that to the best of my knowledge any BK 13 that was sold new at retail, individually, was made in the USA.
If I'm wrong, I'll be corrected shortly.

Damn! That's how you do it right there!!!

Go order the Persistence while they are still accepting pre-orders. Should be done end of month.

The Spyderco Persistence? I've never been a big fan of their products. I know they make some good quality knives but there's something about their blade shape that just doesn't jive with me. And if price was an issue, I know I could go with their child company Byrd (blades made in China but still under Spyderco's quality control) but even at a cheaper pricepoint, the blade shape still turns me off.

What's wrong with the Chinese ones? I actually like them better- they are flat ground which gives you a thicker edge; my Chinese Remoras hold a better edge and are easier to resharpen than my American one.

From what I saw of the Chinese made Remora, it had actually arrived pitted and had rust at the notched end of the blade near the grip. The red dots represent areas that the steel was pitted and/or the edge was slightly chipped, and the red circle is where it was rusted (not major, but noticeable).

I can't believe how cheap what could easily be considered the last 5 knives you will ever need for the rest of your life are. Talk about a deal!

Funny thing is, all said and done, those 5 knives cost the same as the 3 knives that I just returned.

If you like yours that's great. I don't know what the China made ones are made out of, but the American made ones are made from AUS8; a Japanese stainless steel that has the same hardness rating as the 1095 that the other knives are made from, and is IMO the best stainless steel out there. Plus the tempering from China is; well not the greatest.
