Secondary Market

You know what would be nice is if there was some sort of master thread that showed all HI products for sale, both new and used, on all the BladeForum forums run by HI.

My thought is, if there is an active secondary market for HI products, then new HI products will increase in value (and potential price), since they will have increased liquidity and a larger market.

Anything HI can do to please the collector market would in the long run benefit HI's sales of its products. (Just look at Harley-Davidson).

On another topic, I'd also like to see updated biographies for the kamis (both former and current). I've only bought a few HI products recently, but with each one I have a 3x5 index card with the specifications of the khukri/knife on it, as well as the available biographical information for the kami making it. I think the story behind each khukri makes it more interesting as a collectible.

Just my two cents.

This has been run past the management before and Spark decided *not* to pursue it.

The biographies might be do-able...but you have to understand that they are born, learn their trade, work hard their entire lives and die. There are no shows, magazine flattery, write-ups or other western style events. It's their job...

The first is a really good idea, but like Nasty said, the jury is in on that one.

I like your idea of a 3X5 card with kami history as well as specs. I have a spreadsheet with all the specifics, but really have very little info on the kamis themselves, except what I've picked up from Yangdu and this forum.

Between Bura, Sher and Kumar I'll bet they account for 95% of my stuff. A few by Dharan, Amtrak, Vim and Sgt. Khadka round out the rest. I also have 1 Sanu and 1 Kesar, but those guys are long gone.

(I swore that I wasn't going to feed the trolls, for Nasty's sake.... ;) )

It's a suggestion - consolidating sales would make it easier for people to find stuff. However, I think Yangdu's deals of the day are a pretty strong draw as is. Lots of people come to this forum specifically for that purpose, and the range of Yangdu's selections drives interest in all of HI's products. I think it would be trickier to consolidate the secondary market. The Buck collectors have a seperate sale forum (per their request), and another was just added for Busse sales (by request of some Busse fans wanting their own playground, and non-Busse fans annoyed by the shear mass of Busse sales in the exchange). I don't think the volume of HI resales warrants an entirely seperate forum. Nobody would ever go if there wasn't a steady flow of new stuff.

Compiling kami info is an ongoing and worthwhile endeavor. Information comes in trickles - much of it in steel. Something of the kami's personality goes into each blade - the particular pattern, thickness, pointiness, fuller shape, etc. Sanu makes straight stuff. Vim is the new guy making his mark. Sher makes khuks that work all day. Bura is remarkably even and precise. A major point in my khuk education was taking Bill up on his "2 for 1" BAS deal. One beautiful blade - Kumar I think, but maybe Sanu, Kesar, or Sher. The second by Bura was just scarry. Thin and pointy.

There's lots of kami info burried in the archive, and it's worth digging up.

(P.S. Opening comment was a gentle poke at your forum name. No harm intended.)
