After striving for perfection all these years, I decided to put my skills to use in making a second. There was a lot of hand fitting where the G-10 bolsters mates with the spalted hackberry.....it was perfection before glue up. Then I inletted a small chip in the wood and repaired it with black epoxy - YES!! - success towards achieving my goal! After hand sanding to 1200 grit and etching, a small, almost imperceptible imperfection in the steel was exposed that I chose not to sand out - again, my goal was met. Finally, I chose not to drive the micarta pin all the way through the bolsters and filled the void with black epoxy - again, success. The sheath follows the same theme with a small imperfection in the leather on the show side - man, I'm hitting on all cylinders now. The only problem with these issues is that one has to point them out to the casual observer because they are so unobtrusive. Sometimes one does not achieve full satisfaction, but every knife is an adventure.
