Anybody here done any hiking on the Continental Divide/Pacific Crest/Appalachian Trail and have favorite sections or tips they could share, i.e. where to start/stop/resupply/bathe/get a burger-n-beer/not get murdered, etc?? If I could quit working for 4-6 months I would try to knock out one of these trails on one trip. But I work so hiking these trails in sections is my only option. I'm mostly familiar with the Colorado Sangre de Christos, but they all look like good walks.

John Muir Trail is an awesome section of the PCT, and the longest section of trail in America that doesn't cross any roads. Goes right through the backbone of the Sierras for some 220 miles. Vermillion Valley Resort is a good resupply point about mid-way. When I was there in 2004 they were super friendly - hikers coming off trail get a free beer (or other beverage) and a free night in one of their tents. Still dropped quite a bit of cash on really good food.

My ex hiked the PCT, and I was her support, so I slack packed quite a bit of the PCT. Most everything from Kennedy Meadows onward North is splendid. The high Sierras are super gorgeous, in particular.
