New to CS here, but why don't the sheaths come with drain holes? Do people drill their own? I don't understand how the stock sheath can possibly dry out on the inside if it gets wet during carry/use...

I don't know I don't really care much for the secure X sheath. I usually make my own out of Kydex. It could be done at home and it's not that hard to do. I guess it wouldn't hurt if you punched a little hole in the bottom of the sheath Maybe. Maybe someone else will come along with a better answer than I can give you.

I just noticed that my OSS sheath does not have a drain hole. Weird!

But usually the Secure-Ex sheaths do have a drain hole. Based upon the few CS fixed blades I have, I can say that some of the sheaths have bigger and most effective drain holes. In other models the holes are smaller, but they work.

I have a small drain hole at the bottom in all my kydex sheaths, some came that way, others I drilled myself. Takes 3 minutes if that.
No reason why you can't do the same to a Secure-Ex sheath I would think.

My DF Survivalist sheath has a quite small, rectangular, drain channel out of the very tip of the sheath. Would easily clog, but just as easily be cleared, I'd think.

Nah, it's for water to escape if it finds its way into the sheath, which can happen easily in heavy rain or while submerged. The secure-ex sheaths I've seen usually have a small squarish hole at the bottom, which is maybe too small. Still better than some others I've seen where the hole is on the side of the sheath, above the tip of the knife. With that hole placement, the tip of the knife can be sitting in water corroding away.

Some CS sheaths. From the left to the right: OSS (no drain hole), Recon Tanto, Master Tanto.

Just joking, don't get around rain enough to notice the drain hole or lack of, makes sense though. I scrub mine out and use my shop compressor to blow out, still get scratching but it does help.
