Securing folder inside vehicle

Looking to secure a folding knife inside my car to have it within reach in case of emergency.
I don't want to drill the dashboard or damage the car in any way.
Maybe velcro under the pocket clip to hold onto the floor carpet... there's got to be a better way...
Did you find a neat way to secure a folder inside your vehicle? Time to brag, please!

How about some super-strong neodymium magnets? Some of the larger ones are impressively strong and ought to hold a knife in place if the knife itself is magnetic. Worth a shot.

Maybe your visor? How about attaching a fixed blade in its sheath to the side of your console?

Good call! The magnets would have to be epoxied to somewhere hard though.

Visor: awesome idea!
How would you attach a sheath to the console without drilling?

If it has a "pocket" get a pair of rare earth magnets and have one inside the belt loop of the sheath, and one on the inside the pocket. should hold it just dandy.

Thanks for the tips to secure fixed blades but as originally mentioned my question is about securing a folding knife, not a fixed blade.

For me, I have a kydex sheath for the folder, and that's tied to some metal bars under the seats. So I can just reach down and grab the folder. Also, I don't know if this does anything, but I turn it a bit so the opening is pointing to the right instead of straight forward, just in case the knife pops out during a crash.

It's a folder with a clip right?

Go get a cinch strap for a tool cord, wrap the cord around your visor, use the clip to keep the knife attached to the tool cinch strap.

I clip a folder to my seat belt near my right waist-line. It's best if it's thin, light-weight, not too big (about Delica-sized is good) and positioned for tip-up carry. That way it won't fly forward if there is a sudden stop. All you do is pull back and your folder is in hand very quickly. You do have to remember to take it when you leave the car.

In the ghetto, they just stick it in the side of the seat next to them.

If the car is already crappy does that count as damage?

No door pocket on this car? You can always just clip it to your seatbelt too.

To me it just seems better to have it in your pocket or in a vehicle compartment. If you were to have even a minor collision a knife flying around would be really bad.

I just keep one in the center armrest / console. I put it in a generic nylon sheath just so it wouldn't rattle around in there.
