...must have lightened-up in the past year. Yesterday, I made an appearance in US Federal Court in Tacoma, WA. (No, I wasn't in-trouble). Knowing that weapons aren't allowed, I locked my Glock 10mm pistol, my 2 Benchmade folders, and even my little SOG Crosscut MT in the trunk of my car. As I went through the metal detector, the alarm went off. To my horror, I realized that I had forgot to remove my SOG Deluxe Pocket Pliers on my belt. The US Federal Marshall looked it over, and gave it back to me with an "ok".

I was relieved and suprised.:).

My blood would have run cold when I realized I'd forgotten some hardware. I hate to cause trouble for anyone and, like you, try not to. You dodged that bullet. Lucky, lucky. You should buy a lottery ticket today.

Best,

I doubt that they would have let you in here in Vermont. I had the state court sheriff take my keys because I had an Atwood prybaby on it. Bummed me out because for convenience I took it off my keychain now and I love that thing! On the other hand, I was in court today, and the scanner wasn't even plugged in and nobody looked at my bags, etc. sheriff just said turn off your cell phone. I think its much more hit or miss in state court generally than federal court.

They do have a little set of lockers they will put it in i.e. not confiscate it or make you go put it in the car.

Do they make you sign in and out tooin fed court? I don't think I have to show I.D., although at one point I think I had to right after 9\11. But I do have to sign in and out, although it says be prepared to show id.

A couple of years ago i went into the courthouse in little rock, after making sure to take my knife and my leatherman out and leave them in the truck. as i emptied my pockets into the bowl to go through the metal detector the guard noticed my kubaton key ring. I had to put all my stuff back in my pockets and walk the 2 blocks back to my truck and deposit it there. I understand rules are rules but there must have been 20 armed officers in that courthouse, I guess i just looked dangerous. later, ahgar

beware the fat man with the plastic stick.

interesting they didnt take your multi tool. not that i think they should have, just given our paranoia, you know. i imagine court deputies have some discretion regarding confiscating items which could be weapons. as an leo i don't worry about what i take to court. however since i live in the independent republic of california, i would guess they would take nail clippers.
