Welp , got me two more flashlights incoming .

Dang ! Made the mistake of checking out flashlight advancements after several years away .

Knives do improve from tech and design . but not so radically as flashlights and other electronic gear .

My pre-LED Maglites were pretty sexy back in the day , but totally obsolete now . Still work fine as clubs !

1st new one , was a matter of "moonlight madness" . Has 5 or 6 variable levels just for moonlight ! Huge turbo output for a tiny 90 degree angle AAA/ 10440 keychain size .:)

2nd is a pack of playing cards sized and shaped work light = NEBO slim 500 , fully dimmable !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm a moonlight fanatic, and that little Manker light is a lot of fun. Its moonlight goes lower than any other light I own.

Do you own any lights with aux LEDs, Doc? That's one of my favorite semi-recent innovations in lights, useful and fun. I get a lot of mileage out of these two, and 18650s have so much juice in them that for all practical purposes always-on LEDs don't affect their battery life (at least on the lower setting).

My old 4-cell Mag-Lite did a good job lighting the room while I was freezing my butt off in the recent power outage. Whenever I got out of my sleeping bag I could see how much I was shaking.:D

Had one the size of a baseball bat . :p (Actually still have it , but takes a whole big package of D cells to feed it . :( )

Felt damn good to have when I worked as a private cop/nightwatchman in college .:thumbsup::thumbsup: Not sure if that was the same one , but similar .

I still have mine so may as well use it. Plus it was a gift from Jim Palmer Trucking. But my Klarus is a lot handier and more easy to tote around. I loaned my little single AA flashlight out during the blackout last week and I guess they decided to keep it.

My long time policy for "lending" is to basically consider it a gift ...or just don't do it ! Saves lots of hard feelings . ;)

That's why I don't loan my tools out anymore. But I'm not worried about that little flashlight. I wouldn't loan my Klarus though.

I've been working a Fenix PD35 TAC light every nite for about 3 yrs. Got tired to buying new cells,
so finally bought a rechargeable 3500mAh li-ion battery, which is nice and lasts a long time.. The battery has a perfect field of view, IMO...not so focused as some are...
I use the 1,000 lumens setting only, as I am in coyote territory late nites with my puppy and
don't wish to be surprised...

coyote territory
Got 'em here now too . Came in from the west and have done very well for themselves .

Sometimes they start up howling at night , like hoards of demented puppies . Sends chills up my spine .

They're not supposed to pack up , but I'm not sure they know that .

Or maybe we got some kinda coydog hybrids or something .

Yeah , for outdoors I got some serious lights and some firepower always handy . But they never got too close ...so far .

Hardly ever even see one in the daylight , but at night they sound legion .:poop:

It's pretty funny how they still use big flash lights in sci-fi movies and series' where they are supposed to be hundreds if not even more years ahead from now. Even if they use flashlights in the future to begin with (vs. enhanced vision) they will be peanut sized and propably float around your head... and have amazing luminence.

It seems like you get a lot more light for your money these days. I just got a couple of cheapies from the auto parts store and their pretty bright for what they are. There are a lot of led type lights out there too that are pretty bright I noticed. I'm no expert at all their just seems to be soooo many to look at these days. At any rate DocJD Congrats nice little lights, let us know what you think of them. It looks to me like your going from collecting knives to lights though. :D I guess it's better than hookers and booze though.:D

You can get LED modules for those, and 2 or more D batteries will last a long time running modern LEDs. I have a lot of modern lights, but also a MAG 2D LED and a 3D 3LED light from Home Depot. During our recent cold weather our power was off for 56 hours and for those 2 nights we set up the 2 big lights so they were pointing at the ceiling and just left them on for hours. They would light up a room enough that I could read a book. At the same time I also had my Fenix PD35 in my pocket for walking around the house.

That's a good idea, thanks! I never thought about that. I like mine because you can unscrew the top and remove it and the light shines like a candle all around, but brighter than a candle of course. I'll look into the LED modules.
Edit: Just ordered a couple - thanks.

Yeah ! And if you go by FPS video games , all your future tactical / gun lights can only work for a very short time before going dark and having to recharge . Or maybe they need to cool down from a very dim "Turbo " .

FTL space travel but with military flashlights worse than WW2 era . ;)

more light for your money these days
The Manker cost me $23 + tax , brand new . The Nebo was used , like new, for $17 . :)

So grand total of $40 for two , what I think will be , pretty cool new toys .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hopefully also useful tools . ;)

Manker's customer service is excellent, dropped mine and they replaced it.

Pretty good sales pitch for that Manker! I bought one last night. I really like moonlight modes, I had no idea a light could have six! The AA Manker E03H II is pretty interesting too, maybe I'll get that if I like the AAA light.
