Tomorrow night, Friday June 15th @ 7:00 p.m. CST-DST, Tulsa is removing the Brand New 1957 Plymouth Belvedere from the vault it has been buried in for fifty years!  :D
Of course it's going to be covered here on live TV but KOTV Channel 6 is supposed to have a streaming video showing the removal and unveiling. The car was supposed to have been enclosed in a waterproof enclosure but the enclosure has failed at least on one tail fin so no one has an inkling of what shape the car will be in.:( But the steel frame that they lifted the car into the vault with is said to be in pretty fair shape so maybe the car fared fairly well also, one can only hope.
The guys that have been in the vault with the car says the doors and side panels feel okay but that's strictly conjecture.
Boyd Coddington the hotrod builder will be at the unveiling as well. The event is big news here and everyone is anxious to see the shape the car is in. The engine was supposedly covered in cosmoline so that should be interesting as well. I imagine the full can of gasoline that was placed in the vault is no doubt ruined but maybe the can was sealed well enough to prevent leakage in or out.

If you're interested you can see it HERE tomorrow, Friday night.  :D
Look for the, "Exclusive Live Coverage" link on the website. I don't think you have to register for the site but I don't recall for sure.:o

Noted.....hope to see it!

Thanks for the link!

My Dad had a "57 Fury super charged, gave it to my eldest brother for his birthday. Hell of a car.

I can't wait! I was really bummed out to read that the car had taken on some water, though :( It would be a miracle if they could ever get that thing started again :D

I read in the paper this morning that they are also going to have a video on THIS site but I'm not real sure exactly where it will be on there as I couldn't find anything listed for the Plymouth Belvedere at the moment.
Barbie turned the TV to a local channel at noon and it was showing the car being lifted into the air and being moved to the flatbed truck that's supposed to transport it to the Tulsa Convention Center.
I thought they were going to remove it from the vault this evening and then transport it but I guess the time is needed to get it ready to unveil. I remember the car being put in the vault in 1957 when I was seventeen along with some other items and thinking that it didn't matter because I wouldn't be around to see it removed fifty years later, looks like I got totally fooled. ;)
I really didn't think I'd live much past sixty back then if I made it that far.;) :foot: :o
I'm pretty excited as well as disappointed that the vault leaked and that the car has probably been totally immersed many times during the last half century.:grumpy: :(

Well I was hoping for better but the results are what I expected after the media saying there was evidence that the vault had been totally full of water at some time or another and probably more than once.
But the Belvedere's condition is really, really, sad.:( :( :( :( However if the car is professionally cleaned inside and out it may not look too terribly bad. It's just a shame that the car will probably never run again.:(

At least the sealed time capsule that was put in the vault with the car came through with everything enclosed in pristine condition,:D  too bad they didn't seal the car in a welded steel container!

The way the car has turned out should be a good lesson as to why we should go ahead and use the things that we sometimes think are too pretty to use.  :D

That's to bad if the vault leaked....As a car buff....I have a 57 Chevy....see my Avatar....I was really looking forward to the show......I will still look because maybe the car was still ok as mine has been rained on once or twice in fifty years...lol

another ?blog-type thingie on the Tulsa 57.

New, it was a lovely looking car of its era.

Sure was Kis, sure was. And they would run like the proverbial striped *** ape too, with the right V8 of course even though the smaller engines were pretty quick compared to some other cars.:D
A friend of mine's mom had a '57 Desoto with I think the 341 V8 and 4 bbl and with the pushbutton automatic tranny. Even as heavy as that big ol' car with the gigantic tail fins was it would go sideways a half a block by revving it up in neutral and then punching the L button and would scratch a great deal of rubber off the tires when the second button was pushed if you didn't let off the gas!!!! :D  And the Mopars would take that kind of punishment for a lot of years to come!
I have another friend who bought a '66 Plymouth Satellite with the 383 V8 and a four speed with a positrak rear end.
Many's the time I've seen Buck rev it up at a stoplight with it in first gear and the clutch in and when the light turned green simply slide his foot off to the side and let the pedal return full force making one heckuva bang!
The car would squat and then leap across the street and Buck would hit second doing the same thing with the clutch and then third!
Buck drove that car for a long time and as far as I know never had a problem with it.
However when he had his girl and later his wife Anne with him he drove halfway decent because she would chew his rear royally. <VBESEG> :D
