I FINALLY finished the Small Fixed Blade Review. It will definitely help you choose from a number of small, affordably priced fixed blades. Check it out!

There are tons of pics and lots of tables and info, so it may take a few minutes for it to load...

Chiro75,
Very nice work. I've got to go spend more time looking at some of the makers work than I had before.
Thanks for doing this.

Chiro, this is some piece of work. I often keep an eye peeled for a first knife for my son. Something not run-of-the-mill, something that has the quality that I demand of my own stuff. Information in this category is sketchy, I have found, and this is the first real compilation that has fit the bill for me.

Thank you for your time and effort. I think you just gave Allen Blade some business. That Chipmunk of his appears to be just the ticket.

Yep, it is just the ticket. Got one on order from Allen today. Thanx Chiro for the heads up, and thanx Allen for pickin' up the phone.

I was very impressed with Allen's work. Everything was well done. The others are all worth looking into, as well! At those prices you can collect them all!

Chiro,

I wish you had never done this review.

I already sent an e-mail to Running Dog about the LP1 and LC1... They are really nice knives.

Chiro, I thought your review was great, informative and well written.

The only negative comment would be on the photos. I mean I like a good photgraph of pavement as much as the next guy, but try "Cropping" your pictures. When I taught Photography, Rule #1 Before you snap a picture, take 3 giant steps forward (fill the frame with the Subject).

Great review, Chiro. I've already ordered a Chipmunk from Allen Blade based on your review.

Chiro, you mention in the review the thickness of the tip and bevel of the REKAT Fang. How does it compare with the tip and bevel of the UNK? Or do you have one to compare? Just curious, as I have an UNK, and love it. If the tips are different, then it sounds like the UNK is the way to go. Too bad it was the one that was discontinued.

Thanks guys! As far as the photos go, I am actually a decent photographer. What happened is that I have been using digital equipment that was borrowed, and it tends to frame things a little weird. Furthermore, I do not have access to a PC that has art programs on it and that will allow me to crop the photos as needed. I use public-use computers and you can't save anything on them, nor do they even have the necessary programs to modify the pics. That's why there is so much background in them. Sorry! Hopefully it won't be long until I can fix this, but we'll see.
I have not seen or used a REKAT Utility. I can only assume that the Fang and Utility are basically the same, but a little elbow grease and a good stone would totally change the Fang's slicing characteristics if you took the time to re-profile the primary bevels a bit.

Nice review!
note: if you use photopoint you can crop at the host site. (I have to admit - I often don't bother)

Many thanks for this Chiro-As you mentioned in your review this shows that great customs are within reach of knife buyers with reasonable prices.

Chiro,

I'll chime in with the rest of the chorus -- NICE REVIEW!

As you noted, Running Dog Mike Murphy has modified the pup and sheath. Gone is the retaining screw. In is the multicarry option on the sheath, though you may have to ask for it. Multi carry sheaths really improve the utility of these knives in my opinion. I looking forward to Running Dog's new line, the Jr. Executive, which will be a modification of the Lil camper, including micarta scales.

REKAT's Fang can serve for utility purposes but I think it's design is more for a last ditch self defense purpose. Something to keep in mind for those more interested in the utility aspect.

I am looking forward to getting Allen Blade's talonite cricket, especially after this review and after handling one of his MEUK's. I also love what I saw of the chipmunk's sheath.

I also agree that for those who want to break into collecting and using customs, these small fixed blades are good ways to go!

Chiro, you may have to update this review at some point with the little ones from Raker (Ray Kirk) and Newt Livesay.

Chiro-

EXCELLENT MAN! This is outstanding, I am very impressed! Based upon your review I ordered an Allen Blade yesterday, it will be my first true "Custom". And what a nice guy he seems to be. I wouldn't mind having one of each of the knives you reviewed, but I'm starting with Mr. Blades'!

Thanks for the hard work!
