Well, boarding up and heading up to the ranch till Rita blows by. Wish all of us luck. Nothing compared to what Ad or New Orleans went thru, but still a pain in the a--.

Keep safe. You get Hurricanes and we get Blizzards. Both can kill.

Good luck...

I am going to try and ride this one out... I may have to hide from the police to do so, though... They passed a mandatory evacuation law a few months ago, in Texas...

I do not see how they have the right to force someone from their home just for their OWN protection...

crazy stuff....almost surreal...be safe, ok?!

James,
I undrestand the desire to stay , but this thing isn't even halfway across the extremely warm Gulf and is already a Cat 4. There is nothing to slow it down or weaken it. Even if it landfalls south of Matagorda Bay, the wind and rain in Beaumont will be like nothing you have seen. Please reconsider. Even if it turns out to be not as bad as we think, you can always slide back in early. Good luck and don't take chances with your safety.

Thanks everybody for the good wishes.

Stuff can be replaced with time. People? They're irreplaceable.

Watcherass, both of you. You're in our thoughts.

One word- bail. Go early.

Take your important papers in a tupperware. Photograph the inside and outside of your house thoroughly. The insurance guy will want them. Take arms, of course, but you won't need them. Take a khuk & a chainsaw too. Batteries. Extra gas. Radio/tv, canned stuff. Cookies, chips. Any medicines you take. Don't even bother taping any glass. It won't matter. My plywood got torn off with Dennis last July. The screws BROKE.

Take this thing seriously. Look what happened in NOLA when nobody did.

Sit tight for at least a day or 2 afterwards. Only idiots go sightseeing (by car) right after. Let THEM pick up all the nails in the road from the debris.

Oh, yeah. A campstove & propane lights. Don't need a generator if you got a BBQ tank, the hose adapter, and that lil stove.

Good luck.
