I am currently shopping for some new belts on Trugrit and I keep seeing belts listed with CANZ in the name. I haven't seen this before, so I am wondering what it is/means and if its new. More specifically I am looking at the Merit value belts.

Thanks

It is a designation Merit uses. It is alumina-zirconia. The backing varies from a paper backing on the cheaper ones to X-weight canvas on the higher priced belts.

If you look at the Norton Belts on Tru-Grit, the Norton CANZ belts are listed as "made by Merit". Maybe Norton and Merit have merged.
CA = grinding belt? ( Merit designation)
NZ = Notron? Zirconia

Can(vas) zirconia?

Nope, the lightweight backings have the same designation.

Norton and Merit may have have merged, which is why I think the N means Norton.

Merit belts- CA
Klingspor belts - CS
Deerfos belts - SA

Just talked to Scott at tru-grit, he says that canz= merrit zirconia, casg= merrit ceramic, caao= merrit aluminum oxide. He didn’t know for sure if ca= coated abrasive. Those are the codes for ordering from the factory.
