Am I the only one who secretly wishes that some Hollywood type scenario would took place where we, the prepared ;), would need to make good use of our BOBs? Kind of like a Red Dawn type moment but without the, you know, wholesale slaughter of friends and family... Like, camping but more serious...

Or am I just sick and should seek professional help?

I wouldn't say any of us would wish for that situation, but be prepared for it? Of course we are/try to be. Getting shot at is not my idea of a fun situation you know? lol

A BoB helps in alot more than red dawn fantasies. Such as when you get your shitty little 2x4 ranger stuck in a mud hole overnight. Just make sure to pack any booze or habits(tobacco) in your BoB.

i thought the agent in "salt" had a BOB ready to go, but i could be wrong having been dazed by all the stupid stunts :)

I live in earthquake country where a real bad situation is quite possibly minutes away from happening at any given time. No matter how prepared I am, I never feel prepared enough. I'm never close enough to my whole family and kids to not worry like crazy about them.

No. I do not wish for such a scenario to actually occur.

What is more preferable would be to go on a more extended, self imposed exile and test my own mettle. I have no desire to bring anyone else into it.

Het Arkanian.....

I think that you raise an interesting point....Does imagining the ability to overcome extreme emergencies make you wish for a chance to prove your self able.....It could be that it is your mind's way of thinking thru a set of problems and prepping yourself in case the awful happens....I think if you have a good or even overactive (thats me) imagination there is that "could I" factor .....Kind of like imagining the shot when dry firing.......You may need professional help but, probably not over this...LOL....

All Best...

I dont' wish for total worlwide chaos, but, I do like being prepared. I also like practicing skills that I might have to use in a bad situation. My BOB, travels with me daily, everywhere. His contents are a culmination of years of needs when the chips are down. Now, BOB is more of a travel companion that makes me feel better knowing I have him with me.

I don't think that planning, thinking and training for a bad situation is bad, and I don't think that wishing for an opportunity to prove your skills is either.

You do need help though, to figure out which Becker you're gonna get next,LOL.:D

I'm not sure what I think about the whole "bugging out" scenario, but it's a good thing to be prepared for whatever, and have the gear and the skills to use it. You never know. It's also fun just putting it all together and fine tuning it by grabbing your bob and heading out for a weekend. Back in the day we called it backpacking. Before that we called it camping out. Not much difference except for the camo and tactical stuff. The only problem I see with it is when it becomes an obsession. I've run into a couple of groups in the boonies that were totally bugged out, well armed and would have made a delta guy jealous. Face paint and the whole nine yards. It's a little weird, but hey, it did look fun.

Salt had a BoB, In RED Bruce Willis had a BoB (buried under the cement of his basement floor).

I hope it never happens. I like testing things out, but you never know how things will go until you are in a real situation.

There is a very real difference between roughing it for a few days with a minimal kit. Now imagine trying to make it through a whole winter with that same kit.

Knowing that there is a hot meal, shower and bed waiting at the end of your trip makes it a lot easier to keep your spirits up.

A lot of folks think they will subsistence hunt / fish. In a real SHTF situation, the population is going to hit the woods like a swarm of locusts. With no seasonal lake / stream stocking by the DNR, you aren't going to have fish and the deer population is going to get hammered in the first 60 days.

Any situation that has a serious impact on our infrastructure - disrupts the delivery of food, fuel and resources - will result in very dangerous times with desperate people. I recommend a 30 day supply of food in your house at all times. Bug out is only for cases where your house is compromised.

who was it that said "we're only 3 hot meals from being savages"

remember! 2 meals, 8 hours of sleep, and a shower, at least, every day! no exceptions!

Everyone took that way too seriously. I was just entertained by the fact so many people have BOBs and wondered how many people have daydreamt about needing to get down and dirty and being able to do so because they were armed with their BOB. Like I said, "without the wholesale slaughter etc..."

On a secondary note, I am pretty amped about having Mr. Becker post a reply in my thread!

I'll remember to take your questions less seriously in the future.
