seeing the hardening line at 120 grit.

Has anyone noticed when taking their blades through the various grits that the hardening line shows up when you are at 120 grit? I first noticed this on rail road spikes, but I got the same effect with 5160. Once you polish it any finer it goes away but at 120 I can see the line. I will be etching this blade soon to make shure that is what I was seeing but thought I would ask to see if anyone else has noticed it.

I can see it at 120. I can usually see it better with stones that with paper. But, for me, it gets more pronounced in the higher grits, not less.
