Hi All,

My name's Nikki and I've been a follower on these forums for a while and now I am seeking some help. I'm interested in purchasing a new knife rather soon and am seeking any help that can be provided. I got my first knife just over a year ago from my bf at the time and since then I have found my way to carrying my BM mini-grip with me wherever I go. It has become a must have on par with my cell phone and I never leave home without it (I'd rather be late than without my little knife). Recently single I am looking to retire what I have memories and all and find a replacement.

What I am looking for is something relative in size to the mini-griptillian because anything larger just doesn't fit in a woman's tight jeans or nicely in the purse. Straight edge, no serrations. Must fold and have clip. Solid quality - nothing flimsy, strong lock, and reliable. Regarding blade material.. I didn't really have any complaints with the 154CM, but I do want to be sure it's strong, not prone to easy chipping, and retains sharpness fairly well (as ex-bf was my sharpener and hadn't taught me). Cost is of much less concern. Focus is on finding a good knife I can carry every day so I can retire the one I have now. Lastly, no need for something with a "softer" appearance, ei: it doesn't need to be pink because I'm female - I'd actually prefer something more rough-like.. all in all it just needs to work :)

Thank you for any advice or suggestions you may have - I really appreciate it.

Bests,
Nikki

Another Mini Grip or maybe a Spyderco UK pen knife or a Spyderco Delica.
All about the same size.

The Spyderco Caly3 ZDP is one of the sharpest, toughest and yet most elegant small folders I have ever owned. The knife fits your hand perfectly and the ZDP blade edge will stay sharp for a ridiculous length of time. I would consider the Caly3 to be an ideal pocket knife for a woman or man.

P.S. - Welcome to the forums, Nikki!

I agree about the Caly 3. It's near perfect. Personally I prefer it over a small sebenza.

Welcome to BF :)

As suggested the caly 3 would be a nice choice but I would also suggest taking a close look at the para military. Don't limit your choices though, benchmade, spyderco, and kershaw all make some great knives.

read my mind. as soon as I heard the words "Cost is of much less concern" small sebenza was the first thing that came to mind.

this is a great choice as well!

it really depends on what you want to spend. maybe you want to spend 100, in that case you might look for a benchmade 940 or 943. If you really want to buy something high quality that will last, then I personally suggest a william henry, maybe a kestrel.

Hi there,
I've never carried a minigrip, but I would say that the delica recommendation is a great one. If you want something that you can work heck out of, I'd suggest the Salt 1. It's the same size as the delica with a slightly less pointy blade. The H1 steel is awesome and won't rust (at least it hasn't for me or anyone else I've read reviews from). I have the yellow one, but it does come in black. I also highly, highly highly recommend the Spyderco Dragonfly. It is an awesome little knife. It really is a beautiful knife. Solid lockup, wicked sharp blade and very easy to touch up. The only downside to the dragonfly is that currently only the stainless steel version has a clip that is removable/adjustable. The others, (black FRN and white FRN) have a clip that is part of the handle. Neither of these knives are outrageously expensive in my opinion and as another piece of advice, I'd get the Spyderco Sharpmaker to get you started with sharpening. It what I did. I use it almost exclusively to sharpen my "good" knives, but am trying to learn freehand sharpening with benchstones with my beater knives.
Good luck. I would recommend something other than the Spydercos if I had them. I searched this forum and YouTube for 9 months or more before I actually bought my first spyderco (the tenacious...awesome knife, but too big for everyday carry). After that I got the Dragonfly, Saver Salt, and Salt 1. I am currently completely in love with my Salt 1. So, there ya go. Girl talk about knives. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Kershaw G10 Leek (I like the polished G10 Leeks but they have textured Leeks too) They are on the slimmer side and are easily carried. The steel is S30V, so, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting a good edge and it will hold. Also note that Kershaw will take care of sharpening and warranty issues with no hassel and no return shipping. I wish you much luck. Finding the perfect EDC can be such a PITA

Spyderco Delica for sure. It's a fine fine edc for not a ton of cash. Those things are scary sharp outta the box too. Great company.

The Sebenza is a wonderful knife as well. But pricey. If you're gonna consider spending that kind of cash also look into a Strider. They have a smaller frame lock folder called the PT and I'm pretty sure they make them with Pink G10 for the ladies. If that's your thing that is. You might be an OD Green kinda person. Very high quality and as solid as a tank. I have a Strider AR and think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

While I agree with recommending the PT, I think you not only didnt read carefuly what she posted (and if you didnt, how would know what to recomend?) but you assumed that because she is a woman she would want a pink knife.

Several recommendations about the Spyderco Delica, which is a great knife of course, but if the budget is a bit higher then the similarly sized but tougher yet still elegant Caly 3 offers a higher class of knife.

Based on your description, I'm assuming you're also looking for these qualities:
- 3" blade length
- lightweight
- same price range as the grip

A lot of people have made excellent suggestions here, so I might repeat some of them:
- Spyderco Delica, Caly 3, Salt 1 or Native
- Kershaw Leek

I purposely avoid any BM product because they might be too close for comfort to your old mini grip.:)

William Henry seems like a good fit. Classy knives with ZDP steel (very good edge retention). They don't "look" rough though. For rough looking knives, you might consider Strider knives. Small Sebenza from Chris Reeve maybe.

For lower priced knives:
Spyderco Caly 3 in ZDP
Benchmade Lum 760 in M4 steel
Spyderco Military in S90V steel
Kershaw Shallot in S110V steel

Just figured I'd mention it came in pink for the ladies. If you read my post I said it's also available in OD Green if that is their thing as well. And of course there is black and tan. The OP said it didn't NEED to be pink. However, ladies do like pink (which is why strider made some in pink) and I just wanted to let it be known that there is a tough tank like knife of extreme quality also available in pink should that be something that is desired. There may very well be other female members of this forum that have the same question but do badly want a tough knife made in pink. So it's information worth sharing. Always nice to have options. Sorry if I offended you. And sorry if I set women's lib back a decade by informing those that might not be aware that the PT comes in pink, for the ladies, and maybe a select few very secure guys LOL. No need to get defensive and rush to anyone's rescue.

I actually think the pink Strider is a cool option for a woman. It says "I'm a lady", "But I'll cut ya".

Hi welcome to blade forums enjoy your stay,
my recommendations would be a Kershaw RAM, it is pretty affordable at around 50-60 price range, it opens quick, it locks solid, it rides low it the pocket, and it is not obtrusive.

Good luck I'm sure you will like whatever you pick

RAT Cutlery offers a Pink Izula in "Tactical pink", I know the OP said it didn't have to be pink but the Izulas are a comfortable little fixed blade that is easy to forget in you pocket.
